Almost looks like the fuel line came off and the 2 front tires blew from the heat. Don't know what the 3rd pop would be though.

Tires popping in a fire always catch me off guard. Ive heard 4-5 pops before with only 2 tires blown. Unnerving when you're right thrre with an extinguisher.

Failure to practice safety proceedures, kill fuel, kill electric, pull fire extinguisher(s), unbuckle (if car is stopped) and bail.
You can empty all the extinguishers you want if the friggen fuel pump is still shooting gas at the fire. Lean out on launch n20 induced, blew fuel line loose, fuel sprayed hot engine, and continued to fuel fire while fire response people were trying to put it out. Not only should the track team have access to a master kill switch at the rear of the car, driver should have one in cockpit.

My guess would be he never practiced going through a shut down procedure. An open cockpit car like that, it took him more than 35 seconds to get out, way to long!
In my car we have a power handle next to the driver and fire bottle handle on the funny car cage, would probably take Mikey about 5 seconds to pull both and then get the hell out.

no need for a master cutoff in the cockpit when the fuelpump switch is right there..........

I can't find it but there was a video of a nitrous explosion and no one killed the power or anything. Just left it running and driver got out and just looked at the engine like he didn't get it. Meanwhile it exploded again and proceeded to shoot molten metal in the air till the engine locked up

There may be no need in a master cutoff in the cockpit..
But, guess which one I am reaching for if things are on fire !
Alot easier to throw one, then to make sure ALL the switches are off.

Re: Got to love the giggle gas
Fuel cut offs arent a bad idea for lots of folks, hi end alcohol espeacially. With a mechanical pump, some run volumes high enough to push a crank out the bottom if you cut spark and roll the engine over a few times. Not a bad idea on some high end gas combo's either with belt driven mechanical fuel pumps... sometimes plugs and or valves are hot enough to allow electrical engine run on.. being able to push a fuel divert valve and dump back to tank is further insurance preventing a prolonged burn down.
