Are these numbers any good ?
Heads C8VE-E
Block C8BE-F
I need some help deciding if this engine is worth buying to put 4bolt main caps on . I would like to know if the heads are of any use as mild performance goes. Thanks

I guess what I am asking is how do these heads stack up against the DOVE-C power wise ?
Also does this block have a flat main webb like the DOVE - A and will it support say 900hp with a 521 spinning 7500 rpm with a good set of aluminium heads ?

If memory serves me correct,David Cole had/has a C8 block with a Blue Thunder main cap conversion. Ran the piss out of too. I can't remember hp numbers, but i know he had alot of passes on it. Maybe 800-850 hp range??? Correct me if I'm wrong David.

No.The thick web blocks are the DOVE blocks. Also, EARLY D1 blocks are thick, but are like hens teeth...

c8 head is the same thunderjet head as a dove, a c8 block on the other hand is not, and does not have a DOVE style main web, there are a few diff companys that nake a good cap for them. They (C8'S) have std webbing

This is a 68 thunder jet engine out of a 68 thunder bird. I thought I would be getting a good strong standard bore block for the 4bolt caps !

Re: Are these numbers any good ?
Don't shy away from the C8 block due to the thin web. My C8 was thin web and thin pan rail. It was filled to the bottom of the water pump holes and had a BT 4 bolt main conversion on the center 3. I ran it for 6 years for about 1200 total 1/8 mile passes until I broke a crank. It was a 4.5 stroke 557. The crank deal put a small gouge in the very bottom on a cylinder.
So......Ward (Dr's Wife Racing on here) reused it with a 4.3 crank. The shorter stroke keeps the piston out of the gouge. It's in his car now and will run 5.40's in his stock susp fox body.

I ran a D1 block for several years at 860 hp and 15:1 compression with the cheap cat steel caps. The blocks are not the problem. All will do as good as any.
With a conventional type head and unmodified single 4 cast intake you won't be making big hp at 7500 anyway N/A.
I wouldn't take the extra time to look for a Dove block over a D1. They make caps for them. And also, the D1 has a good bit of material out at the pan rail where the splayed bolts go into. And some have a wide pan gasket area.

I have a .030 Dove block and a D1VE block. This one just came my way as a package deal complete and running with transmission. Just didn't know if it would be worth buying for future plans. I don't know much about the big block stuff as I am still learning and have a lot to learn. Thanks again for all of the replies
