Damn, my Galaxie is heavy
Well I finally got my '64 Galaxie 500 XL 466/C6 weighed today...4190 with 10 gallons of gas but without my 210 lbs . Looks like I might need a few more horses than I've got to get her into the mid 12's. What kind of builds do some of you guys with mid 12 second small trucks or cars with that much weight have? It already has a fiberglass front end. Thanks

Ihave a small truck but it is about a 900# lighter than yours it has a 460 wit h dove heads with bowls blended and
exhuast ported 2.08 1.65 valves flat top pistons custom cam from randy m runs 10.80s letting out at the 1000' mark or that was with the old engine working on getting parts up to build a 552 now

Re: Damn, my Galaxie is heavy
I don't really want to go past 11 to 1 compression, which I have, with my Singh grooves it does fine on 93 octane, which makes it street affordable. I talked to Randy Malik at the spring swap about the port work. I was trying to get some idea of how it ran before I decided what to do. My only pass in the 1/8 before the rear end broke was 8.40 which is 13.10 according to my chart, sure nothing to write home about. I would have liked to run it again after Randy Spohn set up the carb and distributor and replaced the 3.70's with 3.89's, just to compare it. I shifted at 6000 rpm's and don't want to go over that with stock rods. New spark plug wires sure won't hurt either. I might even spring for some racing fuel next time My wife wants me to get aluminum heads, bless her heart . I really like my cam (Crower 22207) and would like to make it work if I can ,haha.

Just reading through the latest Hot Rod magazine, they say that the new ZL1 Camero weighs 4120 pounds. That should make you feel better.

Re: Damn, my Galaxie is heavy
I went 10.51@128.86 at 3550 pounds on 93 octane with my old motor, all out of the box parts. It was geared numerically on the low side and the converter was too tight so it had more in it.

I quess that goes to show that the Dove heads with blended bowls can work well even with a big carb. Maybe my Doves won't need to be fully ported to work since I don't want to go over 6000 rpms. My cam is only .550/.551 lift but has 244/251 duration at .050. Randy M recessed my intake valves .020 to get me enough clearance (flat top pistons .010 in the hole, timing advanced 2* at the crank). I'm running a Holley 850 (0-80531) old style street HP single pump vacuum secondary electric choke, 78/82 jets.
Thanks
