Guys,,,,For your own sake, please
use two boxes when you ship your new cylinder heads off to be ported or worked on. I've seen this happen may times before and it happened again today. Customer has a brand new set of C-460 heads (they weigh 45 lbs. each bare)and ships them in here to be CNC ported. What did he do? Put them both in one box, and we're looking at between 95-100 lbs. What happened? Apparently UPS dropped the box on the end, and we now have a cracked cylinder head. It broke up by the valve cover rail, and it's going to be no problem to weld and repair it. But the point is, I shouldn't have to, and somebody has to file a claim for damages. There is a UPS surcharge on packages over 70 lbs. and a special label goes on the box. However, even with all that, we have a flimsy box, heads poorly packed and protected, and somewhere along the way, an employee that maybe wasn't quite as strong, tried to lift it and boom zhit happens.
All the cylinder head manufacturers ship their heads one head to a box. Whether that be Ford, Trick Flow, Edelbrock, Blue Thunder or Pro-Filer. The C-460 heads from FRPP are even double boxed as are the Trick Flow heads, (one cylinder head box inside of another). Save those boxes and use them again when you send your heads off for a competition valve job, porting or whatever. I promise you you heads will arrive in better condition and your UPS or Fed-Ex drivers will be happier.

WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST WHEN YOU HAVE NO BOXES. All the local shops around here will not give them away as they need to ship stuff out from time to time. I have a set on the floor waiting to be boxed up and sent to you.

Good advise/info Charlie. I use a private shipping co. in the nearby town.He has any size box you may need and does a great job of protecting your shipment. If you don't have the right packing, simply spend the extra money to protect your valuable investment.

Brett Powell on here or the other forum shows how he boxes them up ,its a safe easy way for sure he rolls them in carboard about three times or more and when he gets each roll done he tapes the ends that he cut into flaps so you end up with a 3 or 4 layers of of carboard on all sides of the box.powerstrokeace wrote:Uncle CHARLIE
