Is there anything else I can do??? Empty Is there anything else I can do???

Post  BigBoy460 December 21st 2012, 12:57 pm

So between this forum and the 460ford forum this is what I have decided to do..some of you have helped me a bunch and I thank you for all your advise, I wanted to get the most Hp I could with this street / strip build, I bought this truck a year ago and the engine was rebuilt and only has 5k on the motor and I decided to wake her up... if you could not afford new heads and new pistons and could only do a mild port job on the heads and keep the bottom end stock what parts would you go with to get the most Horse Power you could for a street strip application and wanted to be in the 10 to low 11s in the 1/4 mile at the strip I have 22 cc dish stock pistons...

Is there anything and I mean anything else I can do hear for more HP really wanted to get to the 450 to 500 HP Range to be in the low to high 10s in the 1/4 mile or am I screwed?????? Sad

Intake ??? (Your Recommendation)
Cam???? (Your Recommendation)
Carb (Your Recommendation)
Rocker arms and convertion kit???? (Your Recommendation)
Any other recommendations on parts

D3 Heads Mild port Job, May try to open the exhuast ports up a bit more (Cant afford other heads)
Stock 22cc dish pistons( I plan on buffing them and getting all the carbon off for quench)
Dual electric cooling fans
3.73 Rear Gears
Detroit Locker
125 Shot Nitrous kit
3000 Stall torgue convertor
Traction Bars

Have I thought of everything am I missing anything???

How much does the truck weigh?

Your hoping for a lot asking for 10's with a low compression D3 headed engine, with minimal work.

Use the biggest area cam which will fit, a Torquer II intake and spray a lot of nitrous.

Is there anything else I can do??? Empty weight times

Post  Mark Laczo December 21st 2012, 8:24 pm

Well here is some real world data.
I have a 79 f-150 2wd factory weight, I am guessing at 4500lbs.

466" fully ported Edel Alum 75cc heads , flat top pistons, 11.5-1, Ford racing A443 cam, weiand stealth, Holley HP1000, 2700 stall. 4.30 gears 29" tall tires. Estimate an honest 500hp. Runs a 13.20 @ 105mph at 3000' elevation.

Could use way, way more cam, more stall and 4.10 gears but this gives a good idea of how much hp you need for your goal.

Leave the truck together and start saving money for a stroker and some good heads and supporting parts.

My 1976 F100 is 3900 lbs. with me in it but with an iron headed 390. Your should be around 4000-4200 lbs. Depending what options it has. My truck runs mid 12's with 450 hp. Good luck
