filter junk
Ace, I've been cutting mine regularly for years- normally see quite a bit of really fine metal in the oil itself - makes it look like metal flake paint, sometimes a little small alum and iron in the botttom of the can, and not unusual to see a bit of aluminum in the pleats, I rarely see anything large enough to identify as copper in the filter. A lot of what I see depends on how many runs etc. Was always told if you can't read a part number on it don't worry about it! - But.... the last time I found some copper in the filter - 3 or 4 pieces, flat and thin, about 1/8" diameter, I dropped the pan and found a rod bearing with an issue- caught it just in time. that time. I've looked at alot of them out of other guys stuff and in my experience its pretty rare not to see a little something in them if they have many runs on them. Just my experience.

If i'm not having a problem,I don't cut mine open.Just something else to wakeup in the middle of the night to worry about. When I make the FINAL teardown I cut it open and have a look see.

Are you sure it's not just bronze from the distributor gear?

This is what I noticed most on other builds. My 514 just had a bunch of lint and assembly goop in it after I cut open the filter after the first fire up...

Most likely that's what it is. Very fine metal flake looking from both motors.
I never thought of the bronze gear
