Finally shook it down a little today.
Took the car to Montgomery today. Footbraked the 1st soft pass. It felt so good, the steering wheel was almost unnecessary. Decided a t-brake launch was in order...staged the car, let go of the button and knocked the #%$& powerglide out of it. Reverse works ok, no forward gears. S'okay...got all the parts in the garage for a rebuild. Should still make it to US60.

Thanks. I'm not too bummed about the 'glide...it didn't owe me anything as it had lots of passes on it. I'm tickled with the way this homebuilt chassis feels, tho.
I'm sure your 'glide will fare better.

Wasn't a full pass, Rick...tiptoed off the line and ran thru 1st gear only, checking steering, brakes, alignments, etc. Lifted at about 6400 in 1st and coasted off. Something like a 7.0 or so. Expecting high to mid 5.'s from the old pump gas 514, then a bigger A-head deal goes in.

You bet. This old 514 is getting a history of hurting driveline parts. It's used up 2 'glides and 2 rearends so far ...without using up so much as a spark plug.

Re: Finally shook it down a little today.
Thanks, Schmitty I tried to get my Photobucket deal working again but it keeps locking up my computer.
Thank you, guys. Sorry it's still so ugly, but I figured I'd see if it would stay between the fences before I put on the final paint as photoshopped in the first pic.
It's a homebuilt tube car, 4-link rear, Strange strut front. Current engine is a tried and true pump gas 514 with home ported early A429 heads, 1150 Dominator, wimpy Comp .726 roller, JW's glide (most of one, anyway), Competition Engineering chromoly fabricated rear housing, Strange aluminum carrier with 4.29 pro gears and 40 spline spool with gundrilled Strange axles.
One piece 'glass nose, 'glass doors and deck. Those are 32" x 16" Goodskins on the rear, will most likely be replaced with Hoosiers. The engine is obviously shoved rearward (#1 spark plug is a foot behind the spindle.) Spindle is also moved back a little to create a smidgen of extra overhang at the low chin spoiler. (That's 'cause I lost a couple of times by .002 (and less) to dragsters with that long front overhang tripping the timers...That stuck in my craw. ) Wheelbase is +/- 104" with an inch of spindle stagger. Weight bias is 49% front, 51% rear. Total weight is currently 2320 with two Optima yellow tops...before I get in the seat. I guess I'll be racing at about 2520 lbs.
The old 514 went in the high 5.80's on pump gas in a 2700 lb. ladder bar Ranger, so I'm looking for high to mid 5's with less weight, better chassis and better aero. After all the new car blues are worked out, plans are for a 588-600" A-head engine aimed at the 5.0 and 5.30 index stuff.
I think I can get the 'glide resurrected before the US60 deal.

True dat...But the same guy who airbrushed the front end is waiting to do the Patriot Paint. I keep putting him off.
Besides, I'm not a big fan of the "rat rod" fad...even though my car looks like I started the fad!

The 'Glide is out for rebuilding. I'm working out of state next week, so next passes might be a couple weeks off.
