How big of a tire can I run in a 79 Mustang Empty How big of a tire can I run in a 79 Mustang

I now have the install kit for the 429, and will be dropping the motor in this week hopefully. Once the motor is in and running I then have to make some decisions regarding the rear end, gear ratio, 8.8 vrs 9.0 and so on. In my mind I cant make a gear selection until I know what the largest tire I can run is, width, and especially height, as the height of the tire will alter the gear selection.

My question is a two part question.

First off, I know people say the 8.8 is a good rear end, and can hold a lot of power, but I also know that the 9inch is the preferred rear end. Are the guys that are running the 8.8's happy with them? what seem to be the weak links in them?

Second- What size rear tires are guys running on the fox body Mustangs, (mine is a 79) How wide of a tire will the car take, and how tall of a tire will the car take? Or just list your tire size and ill to the height calculations.

Thanks guys

Bubba

Mt et drag 28x10.5 or hoosier 28x10 as there the same size the rim should be a 15x10 with 6.5 backspaceing the gears should be about 390 or 373 or less depending on your set up. My car has 390's with a 28x10 and i shift at 5800 and go over the line at 6100 but with a 125 or 150 shot of nos it was at 6100 way before the line. And no problem with a 8.8 as long as you build it.
