Fender exit headers
What is the story on all the headers I am seeing that exit through the fender? What is the benefit?

Re: Fender exit headers
Various reasons.Noise, fumes, sheet metal rattle, sound better, and SOMETIMES easier access to engine AND oil pan. The guy that built Harold's is gonna build me a set.

Easier routing for down pipes on turbo cars.

Re: Fender exit headers
My car is so freakin' low, there was nowhere else to put 'em. Side note: I no longer need to stuff my ears with cotton inside a full face helmet. Noise in the cockpit is at least cut in half. Floor is cooler, too.

Re: Fender exit headers
I was guessing easier to tune and a power gain from fewer bends. Figured the noise would still be there since its right in front of the side window.
Are you using merge collectors with these or straights?

Re: Fender exit headers
I stepped mine, 2 1/8" to 2 1'4", then to a merge collector. Downside on my deal, the primaries are too short. Yes, it shoots flames w/o a bottle. The interior noise deal is much improved because the collectors point AWAY from the car. Can't speak for the folks standing at the fence, tho.

I built a set for my car last year and love them. Car is quiter, no alky fumes and the underside of the car is cleaner.

Re: Fender exit headers
Ok, I'm convinced. I know when I went to upright headers on the puller, it was much quieter in the cab. Looks like I'll have to plan to build a set of these. I am thinking of doing a set of stepped headers as well. What merge collectors are the most popular?
