Used 460
I guy a work with has a buddy . He bought a ford truck with a 460 engine . He pulled it out because it froze and busted the block next to the starter . It has a rpm intake . D3 heads with screw in studs and roller rockers , he """ claimed""the guy said it had a nice cam and been bored 30 over with forged piston . Any way he is going back with a 351c in the truck he built for a mustang project . He told me he would sell me the 460 for $800 with stock c6 trans . And he would weld the block up with a cast iron welding rod , and get the engining running so I could hear it , how ever he doesn't want to pull the engine apart to confirm the piston and cam ect .duw to wanting to sell it as a running engine , do y'all think its worth the risk of $800 or should I buy another running 72 model 460 I found and just plan the up grades myself ??

your money, your asking a question only you can make . you gamble , there is only one person to blame if it comes up as a loser.
now if it was me and willing to pay the money, the cash would be in hand and a head would come off.

Re: Used 460
Did it push out any freeze plugs? If it froze and "busted" the block, I'd suspect there'd be other damage, most likely in areas with water in them. Beware. At very least, you might pressurise the cooling system. And a guy with a "cast iron welding rod" probably isn't really fixing anything anyway.
IMO, it's not that hard to find a known good engine or C6 (on this site, for example). I'd spend the $800 somewhere else, but only you can make that decision.
