C6 trans help Empty C6 trans help

My trans is cracked around the top bellhousing bolt but not quite broke off yet. It needs a rebulid anyhow so should I get another case or have it welded?

Also, will a normal shift kit still work with a big cam? I have a full manual now and I hate it plus it still flares from 2nd to 3rd.

If I was you I would go to the junk yard and get a usable case if you are going to rebuild anyway. I have welded my share of alum the cast alum will take a special wire or tig rod the cast has alot of magnesume. It don't weld real good but it can be welded but will crack back open if not prepaired right and welded right and tends to crack right beside the weld. Just me I would replace it and if it was already built I would try to have or weld it and try it. shift kit ? I don't know asking about the same ? in the tran section.

X2 on the replacement case. Aluminum is funny stuff when welded.

Frank Merkl should be whipping out his famous valve bodies soon. No more flair!!

I'm running a welded case the top ear was broke on mine also. I've also ran the Turbo Action Cheetah forward pattern manual/automatic valvebody. It worked really well in my buddies 10 second falcon and in my 12 second truck. If your after a good valvebody that will shift on its own when in drive and hold any gear as long as you want it to when racing then I'd give that valvebody a try. Worked great for us. Hope this helps.

OK im going to get a new case. I have another trans with a shift kit that lost 2nd awhle back so Ill rebuild that. If it doesn't shift good ill check out the Cheetah kit or the B&M kit that Frank Merkl recommended on the other site.

Coug, the motor is mounted in the stock position using L & L rubber mounts and a stock trans crossmember with a rubber mount and a chain hooked to the head for an engine limiter. It broke 2 drivers side motor mounts.

Thanks for the help.

The reason I ask was some guy's use a motor plate and have a mid plate and trans mount and the saying is you can use either two but not all three. it gets in a bind and the weakest parts break....
