Some Bottomend Qustions . . .
Hi,
I´m building a 429 with some goodies on it, almost hitting the 450 hp mark.
I have a front sump oil pan, but no baffels in it, that would be to prefered, right?
It´s new and chromed, so i don´t really want to weld in it.
There a ready better sump out there, i saw Milodon and Canton hade some . .But witch one to use??
And i´m thinking of bolting a girdle on the mains, is that good? And do i need it?
How about a windage tray and/or scraper plate?
I did some of the oil mods on the block as well.
The Car is a Edsel Ranger -58 2 dr Sedan
The rest of the enginge :
Edelbrock RPM Heads 75 cc
FAST EZ-EFI
MSD ignition
Lunati Voodoo cam 268/276 Hydr Flattappet.
2" prim Mad Dog headers
Edelbrock performer rpm intake
C6/ 1700 stall
3,70 9" rear end
under 3800 lbs

I advise against a front sump pan without a windate tray/slosh baffle in your application. Ford did make a 429 SCJ front sump pan that has a suitable windage tray in it. Also, Canton makes a similar "replacement" front sump pan which has the same feature as the OEM SCJ pan.
At 450 hp, you do not need any lower end reinforcement such as a halo girdle. Personally I prefer the above mentioned oil pan with integral windage tray over windage control that is fitted to the main bolts. If you choose the windage tray that is fitted to the main cap fasteners then you still have not addressed the slosh control/keeping the oil around the pickup screen in the oil pan.

Re: Some Bottomend Qustions . . .
may want to address the 1700 stall, thats a little tight for a performance application, 2500-2700 is probably a little better IMO
Don't waste the money on a Girdle factory 2 bolt blocks are good for way more than your going to make.
A nice Canton / Milodon or Moroso 6-7 quart fromt sump pan with some baffles will serve you very good or like have been suggested a factory CJ / PI pan will do the trick too.

Here is a mockup picture of the setup, i didn´t have the Edelbrock heads then.
Thanks again for your input guys, i do really appreciate it.
About the 1700 stall . . . i havn´t decided on the final gear yet . . i might put in a 3.00 in it. The car will mostly be used for crusing. And yes . . it´s a lot of engien for that . . But i like my bigblocks , and i like my car to move...
The pic of the car is an old one from when i bought it on Ebay . . It has a new complete paintjob and is under assembly now. Same colours
Thanks again, hope you like the pics of my car.

I have no idea, the pic is from the Ebay add that i bought the car from.
The car came with a 302/c4, started to turbocharge it, but a small block is still just a small block.
And the engine needed a complette rebulid . . .

Pan...
years ago I did some testing with a mechanical oil pressure gauge stuck out on the cowl, hooked up to the pressure port on the top back of the block. When using a pan with no baffle, even the slighted acceleration or deceleration would cause the oil pressure to drop quickly. Those pans were barely adequate for the Lincoln and T-Bird boulevard cruisers. You need at least 6 quarts of oil circulating around in a 385 series to keep everything happy.
