WTH is goin on with the SW dragways???

Firebird: R.I.P.  Speedworld: R.I.P.  Roswell: Cancelled indefinately.  Good old Albuquerque Dragway is on life support.  Every spring it squeaks by for just another year.

Enough to make me eat my hat.  Tuscon is 6 hours away from my driveway, Amarillo 4, Bandimere 6, Hobbs 4.  We are having a hell of a time out here keeping the sport alive.  Politics, greed, and tree huggers. Might switch the '69 over to e-85, mufflers, and cheaters.  Sheesh...

Sorry to hear that. Sure sux for you. Gotta be a regional thing. Tracks seem to be doing well in AL & GA. 'Course, now that I said that, two of 'em will probably fold their tents. 

Firebird is coming back as Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park. Give it some time they are supposedly redoing everything.

That would be outstanding. I had read that the Indians owning the land were looking to do a shopping mall there now that the lease was up. Because we need another one of those  .

On March 30th after 30 years of high horsepower operation the Firebird International Raceway Park in Chandler Arizona shut down. Nearly three years of lease-renewal negotiations between Charlie Allen, the founder and president of the track, and Gila River Indian Community, where the track is located, proved fruitless. Because they did not reach an agreement they had to shut down.

Late yesterday Powerboat Nation Learned the The Lucas Oil Drag Boat Serieshttp://www.lucasoildragboats.com/ fall classic originally scheduled for Sept 13th-15th in San Diego California has been re located to Chandler Arizona. The event will take place on the same dates but the venue formally known as the Firebird International Raceway in under new management and will be renamed “Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park”

It is expected the new management team will begin to reopen the park this week and an official announcement will be made. This is exciting news not only for the powerboating world but also for NHRA and all the other related motorsports competitors that compete at this great and historic location.



Lucas has 3 year deal with a 5 year option for both the Lake and Offroad track, same deal for NHRA. Bondurant also got his deal too I'm told.

The Poarch Creek Tribe bought the old Atmore Dragway down here. It's right near their hotel/casino. They leased the property to a good track operator and financed the rebuilding. It's a really nice place to race now, all new concrete track, concession, track equipment, etc. 

 This is GREAT news.  Now I'm going to go have a beer in celebration.

I feel your pain 4thhorseman, I use to live in the charlotte, n.c. area when in 92 the famious shuffelltown was annexed into the city and had battles with the noise ordernance for years, I was at a book store buying a how to Ford book when I came across a book about lost tracks and my old home town track was in it, sad day for me to relive that crap, then in 2011 I had been racing in Orlando at a small track CFRC 1/8th mile and it closed down too. we are a dying breed, I think Pinks All Out was good for our sport so what happened to that show?
