might buy a lincoln ls. ?????
looking at possibly getting a lincoln ls.
does the v8 have any balls? or does the newer v6 run just as good. looking at a 2002 v8 or 2004 v6.
I was going with a mustang for a new work car, but the wife suggested 4 doors for the kids.
just want to be able to kick the ass end around occasionly when i am by myself and nobody is around.
Midlife crissis i guess. tired of front wheel drive crap after 8 years.
(disclaimer)The occasional slide would be on a deserted country road. dont do that crap in town.
Thanks for any info guys. the old taurus is about to fail. bad wheel bearings in front, load bang from right rear occasionally. 186 thou on it, not worth putting money in.

Re: might buy a lincoln ls. ?????
Dave, my folks have a V6 LS and its a nice car to drive if your not too big. I'm 6'4" and my knees are in the dash and my head is rubbing the roof. I was kind of disappointed cause I love the way the car looks.
They have had transmission issues with it and it was VERY expensive to fix. Its a Jaguar drivetrain, so some parts had to come from jolly old England. They have also had some front end problems too (tie-rods, wheel bearings, etc.).
The V6 has a bunch of power and is fun to drive for sure, I would imagine the V8 would be much better!!
I guess just look for low mileage!!

going to look at a couple this week. only looking to spend 13,000 for a work vehicle. has to be safe for the kids also. i would just get a beeter instead. the wife has a new edge, but there are times I dont have it and need to transport the little ones.
being 6'2 might be an issue.

Why is front wheel drive such a deal breaker?

Your Edge is a front driver....is it a problem ?Dave Maxwell wrote:500 and taurus unfortunately are front wheel drive. its hard to find a decent rear drive car these days
Re: might buy a lincoln ls. ?????
i want rear drive because i live in the country and still like to hang the ass end once in awhile. I know its stupid, but i enjoy dirt track racing and sometime in the future will race late model. until then i still like to slide the occasional corner.
as stated in first post, i dont do it in town or main roads.
front drive is just no fun for me. i have been driving one for 8 years and its driving me nuts.

I hear ya there Dave!! That is the ONLY thing I like about winter!! Now we have a truck with traction control though.....
Would a Crown Vic or Grand Marquis do the trick?? The cops seem to like sliding around the corners too!! They seem to be going really cheap now and actually get pretty good fuel economy.

The cooling fan is hyd driven on the LS, the electric fans caused too much rf that screwed with the electronics on that turd.................in other words the LS keeps the electrical guy in our shop busy like the 6.0 does myself.................and he hates them with a passion.........lol

Re: might buy a lincoln ls. ?????
yes, the winter is fun
alot cheaper on tires. i went through alot on my trans am and mustang. always had the theory that if the sign said 40 for a curve, that 80 was easy then. seems like a double was always the norm around here.
i would love to get into drifting.
i was taught how to drive on gravel roads. counter steering was one of my first lessons. plan on teaching the kids the same way. that way when they get into a slide on purpose or accident they dont panic.
steer with the pedal

I am the same way!! I figger if you know how the vehicle is going to react in a slide your better off in an emergency. I had it save my bacon a few times!!

Re: might buy a lincoln ls. ?????
gave up on the rear drive search. since i will be driving it to work, i wanted leather for easy clean up. finding a rear drive with leather and the right mileage was a bi**h. i picked up a 2005 500 friday. It is a limited, so i got the leather i wanted and the kid got the sun roof he likes on mommas edge.
Now the wife wants to swap vehicles and give me the edge. we live 35 miles from work, and she does extra driving each day with the kids and such.
she wants the 500 because it gets alot better mileage than the edge. She likes it also.
When she asked me what kind of life span the 500 has. I told her it had Lems recomendation. She said then that is great, lets get it.
You thought the powerful Oz was important.
Thank you everyone for your imput.

Re: might buy a lincoln ls. ?????
have to road trip to livermore to check the fuel usage. need to get an owners manual. want to set it up to unlock all doors with drivers door opening. thought it was done through the keypad.
also need to find the keypad code sticker. thought they used to be in the trunk or under the hood.
dealer is suppose to be getting it from previous owner. also want to deactivate the stupid seat belt warning.
