BBF newb needs some clarification
I see the term "A head" being used all over the place, and in another thread I started, "A heads" were recommended for my application. In my inexperience to BBF engines I'm not sure what is meant by "A heads", as I have seen at least a couple of part numbers with "A" in them including Ford racing SCJA heads and TFS A460 heads. Which head are people referencing? Thanks.

"A" heads refers to the TFS A460 heads. They are quite different from the standard 460 layout and require different pistons, intakes, and headers.

OR, that design as with the original M-6049-A460 heads from Ford Motorsport.jasonf wrote:"A" heads refers to the TFS A460 heads. They are quite different from the standard 460 layout and require different pistons, intakes, and headers.
"A" head architecture is also available with different brand heads such as EX514 or IDT heads.

As others have explained it good,it is also noted that A heads are the next performance step up from your oem style heads .A heads unported will rival flows compared to a professionally fully ported P51 or SCJ while still retaining same rocker assembly. Like has been mentioned though, you will need different pistons, intake, and a BBC flanged header.
