front spring rate ...
well after being
told with my ironhead bbf to
14 inch 175 lb springs
and then Dave at team z said 14 inch 200lb .................
i opted for the 14 inch 185 spring rate ....i figuare its in the middle i still have spare 150s if i need them
so i hope with a 28x10.5s and the 185 springs up front its works well
i have baseline relocation uppers on my car along with racecraft drop spindles so getting my rear lower c/a level shouldnt be hard

I don't claim to begin to know more or have more experience than Dave..... He does great stuff and his cars are FLYING! But...
I don't know what your weight bias is (front to Rear, side to side) but I'd bet anything that a 200lb spring is wayyy off. Those 150's will be close. Just my .02, which don't mean much

Re: front spring rate ...
i know its trial and error off the bat with new car ...when i was making an order i asked him what he thought
i told him about the 150 i had already he said 200 to have the option to make the switch if needed , then i figuared what the hell they make 185 that are in teh middle
my set up is a cluster anyways
i have race craft front spindles
strange front coilovers
wolfecraft semi stock spring loaction coil over rear spring with buckets mini tubbed
strange rear 10ways
wolfe craft offset lowers
baseline relocation uppers
i have a half assed setup that im sure will need attention

Your help is valued.... most of these guys racecraft , team z, and local to me DMC all screw with high end light weight stuff and are super fast , but real world exp with these is KEY , thats were you come in and i think all the s/s guys on this forum truly appreciate that
most of those guys dont have stuff with big iron weighing in the front either aka iron bbf

Re: front spring rate ...
I think you asked some time ago and I said 150-175. Start with your 185 and go from there. Springs are cheap

Re: front spring rate ...
Thx. You are correct. Those guys are good guys and I have had good luck with them but they are buried in radial and outlaw stuff these days. It's a shame that some of them started at the bottom and forgot where they came from. TRZ, who is local to me now, seems to be holding strong to their roots.5pointslow wrote:Your help is valued.... most of these guys racecraft , team z, and local to me DMC all screw with high end light weight stuff and are super fast , but real world exp with these is KEY , thats were you come in and i think all the s/s guys on this forum truly appreciate thatyellowhorse7 wrote:I don't claim to begin to know more or have more experience than Dave..... Re: front spring rate ...
BB's typically sit too low with a 12" spring.5pointslow wrote:what are is the gain with the 14 inch vs the 12 inch if any ?

As a comparison....
Cars with less than 1000hp (or so) typically benefit from a longer softer spring as the hit is less violent and things happen slower. Cars with big power need a tighter, shorter spring. It's the "stop" at full extension that hurt small tire cars, hence having good shocks.
IMO your car will do worse with a 12" spring because of your power level.
To answer your direct question, the gain is in ride height, or lack of it
