Engine Balance
I have a 70's vintage Dove-a 429 without a flywheel. So I'm wondering if it is internally or externally balanced. Is there a way to tell from looking at the crank? I'll have the pan off for a swap to something that'll fit in a FFR MK IV. I have a 390 flywheel (std trans). Any chance I can use that? Maybe with a 390 starter? Does the bell housing need a plate next to the block? Shoud it also cover the starter mounting holes? Thanks! Joe.

Re: Engine Balance
Will be internal balance , all 429 were and crank will be stamped 4Y on one of the counterweights .
And YES need to use a blockplate, as well as correct spacing it is required to locate the starter
