how to pick fuel pump and lines
are there any simple formulas or rules of thumb for fuel system flow needed for an engine?

If you are planning to go bigger or faster down the road then I would setup for that.

X2. I know sometimes the budget limits one to go with better part s.but,if all possible go with it out of gate and save possible issues down the road.

too big a system will always work, too small not so much.

i dont really have a specific aplication other than carbureted, gas. just looking for some general guide lines like: you need at least X amount of fuel flow per hp or something like that

<600=150gph
<750=250gph
<850=400gph
>800=500+gph
Up to ~600hp a 3/8" line should be ok.
600-800hp a 1/2" or -8 should work.
800-1200hp a 5/8" or -10.
These are just a rough figures there are many variables that can effect this.
