As a matter of fact, the opposite is true. We want to control what our kids learn and the courses they take and not let it be as standardized as c-core.
I was referring to Texas pushing that type of curriculum. Since you are in the Houston area I can understand that some politicians may be pushing different agendas but for most of the state the national agenda is not cared for. Basically, most states curriculum programs are based on on the assumption that all kids should go to college.
One of my best friends on Earth went to college for enrollment day and then drank alot for 3 years before one day going to a concert without enough port-a-potties. He left the concert and convinced some guys to give him money to start a portable toilet company within a month. He is a millionaire now at age 30 because he was able to fill a need. That is what our education system should be about, teaching problem solving.

Re: Education
Her is a link to Tennessee common core ! I can also say that why reinvent the wheel when it comes to education. My dad is 72 year old and did not graduate and is one of the smartest people I know. This common core is a lot of paper work that is harder on teachers . More paper work and less time to plan and and be ready for class.
Education should be a slow development process from pre school to 12th grade. It should not be writing papers in the first grade and a teacher being evaluated on that child's performance.
Teachers are not educators anymore they are baby sitters and paper pushers.
I can 't explain on here what I have to do or what I see as a teacher and how education has changed in the past 15 years !

Zero tolerance Reform in the News
I was watching the local news today, and a report caught my attention. It was about getting away from Zero tolerance rules. It was not mentioned in the report, but I have read in a related article, that when a student is disciplined under the new rules, that records will be kept on a national scale, so that students will not be PROFILED. If you cannot forsee the ramificatons of this you may want to read up on it further. Social engeering at it's finest. I have never liked the Zero tolerance rules, because they are abused to often, but this is going to make it worse, and I believe disicpline will decline even further.
This is an excrept from an article on the IRS that has some good points about Social Engeering on a National level. If C-Core is a vechicle used for pushing nationalizing State School Ciriculiums, the Social Engeering aspect is relevent.
"[But humans are a messy lot. They can act either rationally, or irrationally. Most humans act within average modes of social acceptability at certain times. As times change the average mode changes and the people, en masse, change with it. Given human unpredictability, the elites and educated idiots in our society keep coming up with methods and practices to keep society within certain envelopes of behavior. All of the elite's methods and practices are substantiated by scientific research and studies, of course and cannot be argued against by the masses because the elites obviously know better. Does any of this sound familiar?
In the late 1800's a new term surfaced that started the process of measuring social behavior and creating methods to control it on a grand scale. Social scientists and economists jumped on this new term with a vengeance. The new term was called "social engineering" and it opened up a very large door to modifying and nudging social behavior of the masses through actual laws and subliminal messages. (To read more about the history of social engineering, click HERE.)
From this "research" came other terms like, income inequality, social equity and social justice. Social justice is the current byword of the progressive movement and Progressivism actually got its start during the heyday of the Industrial Revolution at the turn of the 20th Century. Democrats will live and die on the term "social justice". Social justice got us many large government entitlement programs from Social Security, to Medicare, to Medicaid, to farm subsidies, welfare, food stamps and now, Obama Care. These entitlement programs bought millions of votes from those who conveniently forgot the definition of liberty. Except, Democrats have used the term to rob, by force of law, "those with the greatest capability and give the ill-gotten gains to those with the greatest need." (Karl Marx) However, without a means to pay for their Social Justice, Democrats have set the stage for national bankruptcy with an ever-increasing, run-away national debt.
President Hoover, in the late 1920's, retained the University of Illinois and Harvard University to conduct a study on how to control people through their subconscious minds. Not surprisingly, the study was funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, one of America's leading bankers and industrialists. Rockefeller had a vested interest in controlling people to assure his investments in the U. S. Government were secure. From those university studies laws were passed to implement the findings.
In a free country, where individual rights are the hallmark of its foundation, controlling people through their subconscious minds is hardly the purview of a government charged with the solemn duty of preserving, defending and protecting those individual rights and liberties. Once again, this gives rise to the phrase, "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely."But let's get back to the IRS. What better way would there be to control the behavior of the people on a grand scale than through "playing" with how the IRS collects taxes? Tax incentives, tax disincentives and wealth re-distribution all fall under the umbrella of the IRS, from laws passed by the U. S. Congress and signed into law by the President.]"
The link to this article is located here. It is about Tax Law and the IRS, I only referenced it for the social engeering aspect. It is an intersting read, never the less, and relates to education, on a national level. If the affirmitive action angle is linked to profiling an it becomes reality it will be a game changer in the regard to discipline and social promotion. I can see it driving even more porentially good educators out of the field, as well as the ones teaching now, and create discord between the teacher student relationship. Then the only teachers left will either agree with it, or not even understand what has happened because they are uneducated about these things, and history/government. All rules and laws need to be inforced evenly, I agree, but I can see this not working out well. The link for the Quote is below.

Re: Education
You have a point. ^^^^^^Dave C and Dan H. I should have trimmed the quote more, from the link. It was the first time I have linked, and quoted an article, with my son's help, and we edited the post several times, even if it does not show on the bottom, as so, to try and format it correctly. The disicipline aspect of Zero Tolerance did come on the local news, yesterday, and I side tracked off on it, but thought it should be mentioned, as this just came to my attention. I guess I could be accused of high jacking my own thread? You can take IRS Dem/Repub completely out of the article, Substitute National Government Controlled Public Education, in it's place, to PHATHOM the POWER that will be similar to that of IRS, and use it to see how the system has functioned for over 100 years, and it's History, public education included. That was my point. It was the SOCIAL ENGEERING (Achieve A COMMON-BEHAVIOUR/BELIEF in MASS) part of the article, and the COMMON-CORE (All Books Alike{COMMON} Nation Wide) angle combined with the ZERO TOLERANCE REFORM with (AFFIMITIVE ACTION )To Make Everyone {EQUAL or COMMON}, and what could come out of the three, if they ever would be Combined, Not that it will HAPPEN. The word COMMON is what is KEY. If the subject where private school's it would be alot easier, to discuss, but they don't use C-Core yet, but will parallel it none the less through aptitude/acheivement tests, of what should be and is taught. The C-Core deal is State, at this point in time, and appears to go higher, since it is coming out on Nation wide scale, just as Zero Tolerance did. From what I can gather C-Core sprung from the No Child Left Behind policy, but I am NOT CERTAIN of this? It does not matter where it came from, WHY and WHAT it is FOR should be the Question. Is it to improve Education, as it is advertised, and does it do so. The funds for State Education are tied to the Feds. and they have strings attached, and it has been this way for along time. It also has been proposed by the current Administration, that children should be entered into the public school system at 4 years or age. This goes hand in hand with Social Engeering and is pertainent to C-Core also. How about this, if you have C-Core in your area 1. How long have you had C-Core, if you have it now? 2. What has it changed in your view? 3. Do you have a younger son or daughter (any student or stundents) in the same school taking the same classes to compare C-Core to the old program if C-Core has been implemented? 4. What would you change with C-Core to improve upon it, if anything? 5. What is your opinion of your District now if you have kids's in it, compared to when you went to school, C-Core or not? What is taught, and how it is taught are both important and are linked to this discussion, so it gets complicated, I am well aware. http://socialistworker.org/2013/03/05/truth-about-common-core This article was interesting, considering it was reposted at this site, it was at the top of a Goggle search, is the only reason I posted it. It is a repost from the Daily Censored, so they claim.DanH wrote:supervel45 wrote:Does anyone else with children or that teach's, have any experience or idea's about this. Wikipedia Link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Core_State_Standards_Initiative
Forty-five of the fifty U.S. states and the District of Columbia are members of the Common Core State Standards Initiative, with the states of Texas, Virginia, Alaska, and Nebraska not adopting the initiative at a state level.[11] Minnesota has adopted the English Language Arts standards but not the Mathematics standards.[12]
Standards were released for mathematics and English language arts on June 2, 2010, with a majority of states adopting the standards in the subsequent months. (See below for current status.) States were given an incentive to adopt the Common Core Standards through the possibility of competitive federal Race to the Top grants. President Obama and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the Race to the Top competitive grants on July 24, 2009, as a motivator for education reform.[13] To be eligible, states had to adopt "internationally benchmarked standards and assessments that prepare students for success in college and the work place."[14] Though states could adopt other college and career ready standards and still be eligible, the Common Core standards automatically met the requirement, providing an incentive for states to adopt the standards.[15] Other states, such as Virginia and Texas chose to write their own college and career ready standards, which also made them eligible for Race to the Top. Development of the Common Core Standards was funded by the governors and state schools chiefs, with additional support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Pearson Publishing Company, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, and others.[16]
Though the Common Core State Standards do not cover science and social studies content standards, the Next Generation Science Standards are in the process of being developed. They are not directly related to the Common Core, but their content can be cross-connected to the mathematical and English Language Arts standards within the Common Core.[17][18] This an excript from the Wikipedia link at the top of the page. I also found another article that stated that the Race to the Top grant money had alot of incentive to rush and adopt C-Core quickly as an incentive.

Re: Education
Yes you did and thanks. You did not seem to happy with it. I posted the Wiki link for anyone else that is interested. You may notice that Texas did not adopt C-Core. Texas adopted their plan and recieved the Federal Grant Money, from the Race to the Top, program. It is one of the five(5) states that has not adopted C-Core. This makes of one of the few States that can be used for Comparison. As far as the Canidates going to Austin using it as a Campaign Platform, it looks like a moot point, in Texas, and just a ploy. If their headed to Washington, it looks like they are about 5 years behind, and supported it in the first place. I would like to hear from others how it working out. I will be quite honest, I am not impressed by my district, either, C-Core or not. What scares me more is it's probably the same everywhere else. Just as a side note, in the Technical Writing class they are not issued textbooks. I remember my Dad's old saying, "Buy you book's and send you to school, so Read them Damit." What tick's me off more is I got my property tax statement in the mail yesterday, which primarly founds education, and I am not impressed with my purchase. For the teachers and staff that are doing their job and going the extra mile you have my greatest appreciation, hang in there.
