BBC Damper/snout on BBF

Some guys build their custom cranks with a BBC snout and double 1/4" key-ways for the added strength.

Using a Jesel belt drive, what is the preferred method of dealing with the seal?
Just machine it out for the BBC seal?

Seems logical to me. I know Carroll has machined out timing gears for the BBC i.d. dimension.

Why do they want a BBC snout ?

Use a Danny Bee and request the BBC snout pulley, problem solved. I run that on my own motor. And am doing a couple now.

Sold my 800" shortblock, now I'm looking at building a nice 650" that will take a lot of boost.

Who makes an aluminum solid block for the BBF? Billet or cast.

I already talked to Carrol Carter about his cast blocks. Just want to look at all options.

Dart makes a billet block for the BB Ford. Others do to, I think LSM.

The short boss snout and even the std long snout works fine for N/A engines, even for some blown applications, but for high hp blown stuff, it's just a lot stronger to use the BBC snout.

Gordy and Randy have already answered your question correctly. It is a strength thing simply based on size, meaning snout diameter. Of the big three engines, the 429-460 BB Ford is the smallest in diameter, next up is the 426 Chrysler Hemi stuff, and even bigger in diameter is the BB Chevy snout.

BBF diameter: 1.375"

BBM diameter: 1.530"

BBC diameter: 1.610"

Call Kaase then. I could have sworn that he said Dart made Bob's billet block.
