http://freedomoutpost.com/2014/02/texas-police-double-islamic-terrorist-militia/ I read a book written by a retired Texas Ranger, and he encountered a similar setup durning the 1980's when Russia invaded Afiganistan, and we were supporting the rebels. A movie about it, called Jim Wilson's war was made about it. He was a US Congressman from Texas at the time. Suspect

Yes it was a pretty good movie. I don't remember if the movie mentioned Carter, and the Americans in Iran held hostage, and that Carter approved the move "support of puppet change" to trigger the Russian invasion. I remember the creation of the late night special news program Night Line, to cover the Iranian hostage taking of Americans, and the rise of Ted Koppel, because of it. As you must surely recall, all these events happened in 1979, and ran parallel, to a great extent. The new Night Line is a sad joke, compared to when Ted was there. I wish I could remember the name Of the Texas Ranger that wrote the book, but it's been awhile, since I read it. I hope the link I posted is BS, but nothing would suprise me anymore, crazy times indeed.

From Wikipedia.

Charlie Wilson's War is a 2007 American biographical-drama film, recounting the true story of U.S. Congressman Charlie Wilson who partnered with CIA operative Gust Avrakotos to launch Operation Cyclone, a program to organize and support the Afghan mujahideen during the Soviet war in Afghanistan.

The film was directed by Mike Nichols and written by Aaron Sorkin, who adapted George Crile III's 2003 book Charlie Wilson's War: The Extraordinary Story of the Largest Covert Operation in History. Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, and Philip Seymour Hoffman starred, with Amy Adams, Ned Beatty, and Emily Blunt in supporting roles. It was nominated for five Golden Globe Awards, including "Best Motion Picture", but did not win in any category. Hoffman was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

SOF had a few people in country back then. They had some good scoops, but it's a Rag like any other and BS often sells print. Money Politics and War make stange bedfellows as they say. Alot of the Vietnam era folks saw it as a nice payback, then. Can't imagine them not at the time, considering the mood of the country.
