Stiff Sidewall Slicks
Getting ready to buy slicks and was wanting to know if anyone is running them and what you think about them?

I run M/T ss and can't complain about the performance. They dont hold air for shit so tubes would be a plus.if your gona be pretty hard on the tire a ss with tubes is a good idea.

Re: Stiff Sidewall Slicks
What size tire? I've run the Hoosier 32X14.5W stiff sidewall. Measures 32X15 with `102 rollout. It worked well in my car at close to 3000 lbs. Keith Fulp runs it on his '58 I think. I've since swapped to the regular sidewall Hoosier 15X33 because I wanted the extra rollout to ~104. Saw no diff in performance.

Re: Stiff Sidewall Slicks
IMO it will make less difference with a tire that wide but they will not hurt if the car hits the tires hard or makes the power to hit the tires harder.

A ss will help top end stability especially without tubes.

I had a pair of soft sidewall Goodyears (32 X 16) on my car...it launched like a pogo stick until I swapped on a set of Hoosier stiif sidewalls (31.5 X14.5 W). I'm a fan of Hoosiers for big tire cars.

X2. But it won't be as obvious in a 10 sec car vs a 7 sec car. But I don't know how fast his car is......

The Hoosiers on my car (31.5x13.5W) hold air better than any slicks I've ever had. I put the car in the garage a month ago for a trans rebuild. They had 7 lbs. in them then. Today they had a hair over 6 lbs. No tubes.

Re: Stiff Sidewall Slicks
I've thought about trying a set but have heard a few folks say they had no luck with them. I never had any reason to change from m/t except for that air problem when ran tubeless.I'm still considering a set though. Re: Stiff Sidewall Slicks
From what I have seen Hoosier's do seem to hold air the longest over time. And Goodyears are probably the worst at holding air over time.

Re: Stiff Sidewall Slicks
Mine (Hoosier #18260) leaked like Grandma's collander when I first mounted them. Musta been bead leaks because after I ran 'em the first time, they just quit leaking. No soaping or any special treatment. They also work much better on the track. 5.70's car. I'm sold.

Re: Stiff Sidewall Slicks
Goodyear D1408. pretty stiff - put 2 coats of Slime in them before mounting - usually works pretty good. The biggest issue I have is they start going away about 50 passes... still plenty of rubber but 60's fall off and get more and more inconsistant. I used to run thr GY 2052 - they were crap at 30 passes. Hitting the tire pretty hard at 3000 lbswith a 1.25 or so 60'. Been thinking of trying the MT's next - what do you guys get for runs out of them?
