A day at the track with bigblockfox468
Saturday at Ubly Dragway About BigBlockFox468
The local Breakfast club and the No Name Car Club met at Ubly for an afternoon of test where a gamblers race was offered. A few BC members from our Forum were there Quick52 (Dale) and BigblockFox468 (Mike). The track had a typical TnT prep and as expected our 60’s were down the air was high humidity and the temps were high 80’s.
Mike was struggling to get his new double adjustable shocks dialed in and at one point we thought there might be a motor power problem. Needless to say Mike was way down mentally but then we looked at his slips again and noticed his reaction times were all .0 or lower. I still encouraged him to get into the race but he declined. So what I couldn’t do the coach (Dale) charged him up and Mike threw himself into the race. I think Dale was a professional coach in a previous life or at least should have been.
Racing begins and there was a local points bracket racer named Roy running one of those late 80’s Chrysler tube chassis cars with a stroked small block that went about 2300 pounds.
Now you probably guessed it that Mike and Roy put everyone on the trailer.
In the final round we have
Mike in the Fox body powered SCJ 528 at around 3000 pounds foot braking in his first event ever.
Against Roy the cagey bracket racer in his light weight small block Chrysler with a trans brake and lane choice from having the better prior RT.
Mikes dial 6.55
Roys dial 6.75
The tree drops and the Chrysler leaves with about a car length on the Mustang. Quickly Mikes 528 Mustang pulls on the Chrysler where its within a ½ car length at the 330’ and by 500’ Mike was ahead. Mike won by .039 margin where his car ran a 6.555 (just .005 slower than the dial). He lifted at the end to keep from breaking out.
It was Mikes day yesterday and it appears that he is a natural. To beat out other racers without a brake and lifting to avoid breaking out on his first time ever event is fantastic.
Mike in the middle with his trophy and cash with the leader of the No Name Car Club and his hot girl friend.
Look at that smile, its all over now having a cold one. Notice the trophy on the trailer in front of the wheel. What a day! I cant think of a nicer guy to win it all.
Way to go Mike…

I bet it won't take a lot of coaching to get him into the next race.

Re: A day at the track with bigblockfox468
Thanks guys and Thank you too DaveDe for an awesome write up there ...you crack me up
It was kinda frustrating to begin with...the TB not working, trying to figure how to launch it... FB or off idle, it was hotter then a 2 peckered billy goat, humid, car wasn't hooking, It was 2-3 tenths off from what it normally runs ... of course in cooler weather and me being a rookie and just not realizing how much the air and heat was affecting the performance. Dave, Dale and Ted were giving me input and advice during tnt. When they announced the race "the no name car club" wanted to have and invited anyone in I was a little hesitant cause I didn't know how the car or me would do cause it would be my first official drag race event. DaveDe wanted me to get in it, Dale aka quick52 gave me the good ole "You can do it" speel and said to me "you want to race on your worst days not your best". That kinda made sense to me and the entry fee wasn't much and plus I still wanted to do some more runs so I wandered up there in the final moments and got into it. After I went 2 rounds and won I thought hmmm...maybe just maybe, then I got the bye run and then I knew I was there!! DaveDe had a good performance like usual and made it to the semis. Him and I were talking how cool that would be if it became a BBF final between him and I unfortunately he red eyed and it was up to me...... and I did it Kinda cool, first event, first win, got a trophy and took home a little cash to boot, plus a nice 8x11 photo by the track photographer and the car club paid for it too . Nicole the little sweetie in the picture told me she had her money on me from the beginning. I told her cool and she has good taste and hope she made some $ too and she said "Oh yeah"
I was doing pretty good on the light too it was just
