Engine for my 64
Hi I just picked up a 64 Galaxie 500 that I plan to restore with Crites fiberglass throughout less doors. I want to eventually put an FE 4 speed in it but for right now stick with what Ive got a 385 based motor and C6 trans. Where I live we mostly have 1/8th mile tracks but I would like to run well into the 11s as I dont want more than a 6 point roll bar in the car. I planned to do a 4.5 or 4.3 stroker with DOVE heads since thats what I have. 3-3500 stall and 4.56 gears. Id like to run pump gas but 91 octane is the highest available round here along with E85. My buddy and I built a 73 GTS a few years ago that went low to mid 12s outta the gate with very little tuning his was a basic 472 with D3 heads ctc sized valves and the usual exh. port work. That was at Milan in Michigan Im close to 3000 feet elevation but dont think 11s is to far fetched. Looking for suggestions all are very appreciated.

4.56 gears are a little overboard for your goal.
A 10:1 521 or 545 with some port work to your Dove heads will do the trick.
For a budget engine is go with a solid flat tappet and a victor with a 1050 on it. Of it you more into street driving a torker 2 with a 950 would work well also.
As far as gearing I'd look at some 3.89's to 4.10's with the c6

Engine for your Galaxie
I run a .40 over 460 in my 64 Galaxie NSS car and run very low 11's. I am considering going to a big FE and may sell this motor early in October. It is fresh this season and will maybe have 50-60 passes only. If you are interested call Dick @ 630-494-1065 or (dragsterdick@comcast.net) Northern, Illinois

If you dont mind me asking whatd your car run and what all did you have in it?dragsterdick wrote:I run a .40 over 460 in my 64 Galaxie NSS car and run very low 11's.
