Re: Maxxis trailer tires
I go with the ratings on the side of the tire as well. IMO the ratings on the trailer only apply to the tires that came on it. Are your tires 15" or 16"?

Re: Maxxis trailer tires
Just an fyi... Cars tire pressure is determined by the maximum expected load and the amount of load each yire is expected to carry. Many tires on cars and trucks are capable of being inflated from 36 to 80 psi. Most cars and trucks recomended inflation is 29 to 50 psi. When you exceed the vehicles recommended pressure the tire crowns in the center and burns up the middle of the tire.

Re: Maxxis trailer tires
Load c rated tires are 6 ply. Load d rated tires are 8 ply and load e rated tires are 10 ply and will sustain 80 psi. There is a very limited availability of a g rated tire thats 14 ply and will take 110 psi. There is a specialty 17.5" wheal trailer tire thats j load range anle to take 4805lbs per tire and 120 psi.

Re: Maxxis trailer tires
Yes, so for example, my trailer has a GVWR of 14,000lbs. It has (2) 7,000 lb axles. So, ideally, you would want each tire rated for at least 3,500 lbs each at 80 psi to approach the GVWR of 14,000lbs (3500 X 4 = 14,000). You would only get that from a Load range E tire in most cases.
So--figure out what the GVWR of your trailer is, and get the appropriate tire for the load. Once you have the right tires, follow the instructions on the tire itself.
