A win for the '58 Empty A win for the '58

Post  Wheelie58 September 29th 2014, 6:53 am

Me and the old '58 Custom won Hot Rod Eliminator and runnered up (red lite ) in the shoot out race at Atlanta Dragway last Saturday. The event was the Gear Jam Drags, a run what you brung heads up race. I had the timing backed up a tad, 115#of tail ballast, and turned the starting line RPM down to 4200 due to expected track conditions. The aero Pro Stock scoop stayed at home and the more efficient newspaper box scoop was installed on the three Flying Toilets. The car made it's first ever runs in the 8.80 zone with 8.86...8.87, 153 MPH runs. The 618 now has over 200 runs and 42 dyno pulls with only one issue, a broken rocker and worn pushrod ball....earlier in the season. Even the valve springs are still fine.
In the final, I was a little worried, running a tube chassied Camaro with a blown rat motor...but he was no match for 3840# of A Head Ford.

Thanks guys...
Round wins have been kind of sparse this year. Car is fine...driver is questionable.
It is good to grab any kind of win when I can!
Thanks
Keith

It looks like you continue to improve that 58 at a rapid rate. If I ever go after a set of A heads I will start and stop at your door. Way to go.... a good outcome for a well deserved person.
