Now I've done it !!
After a pitiful attempt to race at our local "track"..
I have been asked NOT to come back..
Seems the owner can't handle the truth about how bad his people run things...
Hate it, because it was the track closest to us.. BUT
It makes life easier , as I don't have to wonder if I should go or what a cluster it will be...

Butt Hurt track owners/managers?
Sorry to hear that. I've heard grumblings about our local track and why the car count is down however I've never seen it first hand. Would help if I went more often, perhaps next year.

Re: Now I've done it !!
We had that happen to our local track. The original builders / owners sold the track to a guy that thinks he can sit back and watch the money roll-in. Now he doesn't have a bracket car program and only opens for Grudge racing on Friday night. He doesn't spend any time or money on real track prep. Pay outs went from $1,000 every weekend to less than $300 if your lucky. Which he sets the car count so high that he knows there will never be enough cars to get the max payout.

New manager, and track crew that don't know how to prep track..
Not organized worth a F.....
Say purse is "guaranteed" , then want to cut it, for lack of cars...

is it the little 1/8th miler in or close to savanna? I was traveling through that area back in the mid 90's and stumbled across that track so we went inside to watch a sat night race, WOW! what a cluster! I was mad and I was just watching.

Lol.......that all sounds very familiar to a north Alabama track close to here. I know it's not easy to run a track but damn...... Â I know all the guys at us43 work building houses all week then run the track every weekend. They do a great job and are good folks that really love racing.if its only about the money to a track owner it'll fail.

Sounds like most tracks I have been to. Shame that they are turning into this but the economy has made for bad business decisions IMO

Was this the 1st race under new management???
what level of cars were there for the race... (slick, radial, street tire)????
what were they trying to prep for????
how many cars were there? 10,50,100? what was said payout??? and was the reason the owner wanted to cut the payout simply because there is not enough turnout???
not trying to bust your chops here, and I know it can be frustrating when stuff is unorganized...I've personally dealt with the NHRA track official that wants to be "KING DING-A-LING"... but if you went to the new owner with a safety concern, and he just blew you off... then piss on him... but if you just went in and started bashing the track & crew for a crappy surface or "monkey's 'effin a football" what kind of response would you have had if the roles were reversed??? every track will have "growing pains"... Its up to us as racers (JMHO) to make a difference with tracks... Meaning , get involved , ask what you can do to HELP...
Race tracks are a BUSINESS & the owners HAVE to make $$$$ or they can not stay open, there are far too many going out of business which means there a fewer & fewer places to do what we love...
Guaranteeing a purse is a big gamble... but if a track owner does it... they better damn well pony up, no matter what the turn out is... in full agreement with you on that one.
That alone will KILL a track quicker than anything.
I guess what I'm saying is, we as racers need to be part of the solution not add to a problem...

Let's see.......
4th race under "new" manager, Not sure how many races for new Track "prep" crew, probably 3 or less.
Class for the night were.. Box, had 3 cars, NoBox had 15 or so, and the 28" tire class had 4 (they didn't get to run either) . All classes had separate purses.
Per their flyer on FaceBook for Box and No Box, 9 cars or less, $500, $200, $50, $50 GUARANTEED and purse increases per car count..
NO mention of needing 6 cars to have a class...Owner's reply.. "It's always been that way.." Ok, where does it say it ???
Track had NO rubber, The manager even admitted to me.. "The track is junk"....his words , not mine... He asked me how it was working, since I had fastest car that night Not sure who they were prepping for or if they even knew the difference in prep.. Never bashed anyone or said they were running a cluster f......
Let me also add that, in addition to the dragstrip. the place has a dirt track and a Kart track that were also running ( yeah.. I know)
So, it wasn't like the place was a ghost town...
Flash forward to Sunday.. Track OWNER, not manager, and I start going round and round after I questioned the events of Saturday.
His point being the No Box cars raced for $1000 ( box racers were given option to turn off boxes, but no time runs to leave on bottom bulb.
Let me add, that I was only saying things that all the box racers had been talking about for the past couple of months...
I am not the only one that has been in his ear lately, probably al least 15 of us saying the same thing...
Most of them have already said they won't be back ( before all this occurred)...
I can agree that they need to make $$$.. that's a no brainer..
But, you also have to be able to listen to what experienced racers are telling you as a group...

Re: Now I've done it !!
Well it makes total sense that as a track owner you would give the fastest car at your event the shaft (i am sure he doesn`t know anyone else that races). If only because you haven`t done a good enough to draw enough cars for the class, then just chase away the class. You can save money on track preparation, staff training , and food purchases because there is no reason to open the concession because the family and friends crowd packs their own snacks. Further there is no need to tech because everybody drove here. You can leave the pits graveled, and patch the potholes with cold patch and foundation cement. It does take 2-people to work the burnout gates, so we will eliminate them too, most of these street cars don`t have nice paint jobs anyway...
Hold it...It takes money to make money, but I accidentally quoted from the book of idiot`s aka how to set yourself up to fail in business. As the CPU crowd call it another ID ten T error! Unfortunately it happens far to often, have the money and the idea but fail to listen to the one who drive the business! JMO
