Roll Bar Question?
I'm looking at a S&W roll bar for my 1969 cougar, was wondering what I should order, I dont plan on useing the back seat of my car but want to leave it in for looks the kit shows a pro street option and side drops and swing outs. Gonna get at least one swing out just not sure on the rest.

this is where I bought my cage for my Ranger not many offered a cage for a 2000 Ranger ext cab at the time. You call them and they can help you with it also.

Re: Roll Bar Question?
Before you order a rollbar. Ask them how wide the bar is at its widest point. Then measure your car inside at the widest point in the car, or where your bar will set. Reason being ALOT of pre-bent bars run on the narrow side.
Plus you can request the info instructions for a bar to be bent to your specs and insure a good fit.
Good luck.

I guess I took a break for awhile, but still got my cougar, raced it at Ford vs Buick 2014 for the first time in 4 years.

Re: Roll Bar Question?
I ordered the same kit for my Fairlane, even though I haven't installed it yet I can tell you on the prostreet bars that go through the package tray they are a generic fit. They have a bend in them that are long that need to be cut to fit. They also are not notched so you will have to do that also.
My plan was to make a template out of conduit sized right before I cut the bars and notch them. Having said that the kit seems to fit pretty well.
Good luck.

If you get the kit in before long it would be nice to see. sounds like the prostreet bars are a good idea.

I've always used 1/2" aluminum tubing as a template and draw out a diagram of what I want then go to a chassie guy and have him cut and bend what I wanted.

Re: Roll Bar Question?
The S&W rollbar kit for the Mustang/Cougar is a good one. I had a 69 Mustang from 1990-2002. Around 96 I bought the kit. Also bought the swing out door bar deal but didn't need it. By the time you put the door bar low enough to clear the inside door handle it's low enough to get in/out of easily. It's still legal though as it passes the body just above the elbow (must pass your body between elbow and shoulder).
The car had a 383W iron headed sbf/C-6, then a glide. Started out with slapper bars lol, then Cal-Tracs with 28X10' slicks. In 2000 I back halfed it with 14X32's, ladder bar/coil overs and tubs. Kept the original S&W rollbar, just added X bars and a ladder bar crossmember.
The bar install was pretty basic. One end on the tubes were already fishmouthed, just had to cut it to length and angle where it met the floor on all the braces. The main hoop just has to be cut to length on the bottom legs were to weld to the floor plates. The main hoop as a touch too wide on on purpose at the bottom. I used a heavy duty ratchet strap to winch it closer together so it would fit before welding it in. Made for a good tight fit.
