545 "Tune-up" , out with the old, in with the new
Going to make some changes to my 545 this year, so it will be a major "tune-up" ha ha The old parts: Pocket ported Dove-c iron heads with Ferrea 5000 series CJ size valves, exhaust ported to CJ gasket size, flat tappet 262* .640 lift cam, -22 cc dish probe pistons (11.1 compression), track heat 4150 intake manifold, 1050 4150 carb. The new parts: P51 heads (stock for now), solid roller .760 lift 274* cam , flat top probe pistons (14.1 compression), mafia manifold, 1150 holley dominator carb. I have never had aluminum heads or roller cams before, so will be all new to me. My 3500lb 1969 mach 1 would normally run 11.15 to 11.30 @ 121 mph here at 4400 elevation, so hopefully those times will be replaced with some "newer" quicker times !!!!!

Sounds like a healthy upgrade. I personally would keep a dish piston though for pump gas capability. Unless it's track onl I guess.

Thanks for the replies back. I originally thought I would drive it on the street when I put this motor together back in 2009, but that rarely happened, so this go-round I'm going to try the higher compression route. With the elevation here we lose 13% of our power right off the top, shooting for low 10's and going to try to improve on the 60', maybe squeak into the nines

Right now the car has traction bars from the 70's, M/T et streets. Going to replace that setup with cal-trac bars, stiff sidewall slicks and calvert rear shocks to try to improve on the 60' times

Yeah.....I went 10.90s w traction issues at firebird weighing 4150 lbs w. virtually the same engine combination. I think your lighter more aero stang is gonna surprise you if you can get it to 60ft

Hello Mike, can't wait to hear what your old cam sounds like in my car with the 14.1 compression. Be awesome....

I am familiar with altitude thing. I went a similar route with my '69. You can expect a solid second drop in ET right off the bat.
