Not sure if anyone ever documented this, but I found a temperature sending unit that will close (turn on) around 225 - 240 degrees. Which IMO is perfect to trigger an idiot buzzer that goes off when the car gets too hot.

Bi-Metal Type, Radiator Fan
Switch 3/8 -18Dryseal Thread,
Normally open Closes @ 223 to 239¢K
Ford: E0ZZ-8B607A
Wells: SW501
Standard: TS-121

The 'normal' Ford sending unit for an idiot light has a range of 250 to 260 degrees

Bi-Metal Type, Light Switch
3/8" -18 Dryseal Thread,
Normally open Closes @ 250 to 260 ¢K
Ford: C8GY-10884A, D1FZ-10884A,
D6AZ-10884A, E43Z-10884A
Wells: TU32
Standard: TS36

Very Happy

If you can find a partsman that actually knows what a buyers guide is and how to use it there is a ton of options available for things like this. I use a similar sensor to turn on the high idle solenoid when my truck is on propane, as soon as it heats up the solenoid kicks out.

the bad part of temp. is the bulb must be covered with coolant. blow a hose or leak -- incorrect reading . mounting low ,in block is best.

on some roundy -round cars i messed with i would plum in a "oil light sending unit" into the coolant system. from a small block chevy it was a one wire and went to ground (closed) at anything under 7psi.

the whole idea was while the motor was warming up, ie under 7psi coolant pressure, the idiot light would be on

if you spring a sudden leak and loose pressure rapidly it will save your azz, i had a driver run over a piece of debris and cut a hose and lost the motor because all the water came out so fast the temp sending units never had a chance to report anything because it was all air in the system in a matter of seconds
