460 build w/p51 heads build HELP!!

Have 460 bored 30 over, stock crank, P51 Heads 72cc, Victor intake 1150 carb.

for now want to use stock stroke and "stock rod length", flat tappet cam

I want to run pump gas, and be able to drive on street couple times a week and to the strip once in awhile. 3200lbs mustang.

any ideas on pistons? what compression ratio do i need to be at to do this.

read a kaase build w/ stock bottom end and p51. c/r was 12:1 , 91 octane no detonation.

is this possible for my street /strip play toy. I am going to use eagle H rods stock length.

Don't try 12:1 for a street engine. It can work but it's very very difficult and not for beginners. If it's a light car with a loose convertor and some deep gears 10 to 10.5 is good.

Just make sure your pistons have the right dish to get the compression down and proper valve relief for the p51 heads.

A mechanical flat tappet is good for a budget build and works well. Randy Malick and Lem Evans are both good sources on this site for custom cam grinds and both have experience with p51 heads.
