New personal best today
Ok fellas. Took the truck out to test today. Weather was gorgous and in the mid 60s. We drove the ford out to the race track w only one real goal in mind. (two actually) #1...to go faster than we went last time out.....#2 To drive it 15 miles back home in one piece.
Both were achieved!
Since last yr i loosened the convertor to 6000 (peak tq) and put on a Mt 275 radial pro. First time ever running a radial so honestly...i had no idea what to expect.
First pass i didnt get a huge burnout and didnt know if the radials needed broke in. I left the setup similiar to what i ran w the hoosier QTPs and ran 18.5 lbs air pressure. 4000 chip. I hooked for about 1 foot and spun like it was on ice.
After watchin the vid and scratching my head ALOT......i decided to LOOSEN the rear shocks (from 10 clicks down to 5) giving it more hit since it hardly showed any action in the sidewalls. We also lowered the psi to 17lbs. It responded w. a 1.42 60' and a 10.15@130. Both personal bests by over a tenth. It carried the front tires far enough that i actually felt it which was a totally new sensation to me.
Last pass i just wanted to change something and document the response so i knew a direction to go for next test n tune day.
We turned the leave down to 3000 and tightened the rear shocks two clicks. It left softer and responded w. a 1.48 60ft and a 10.27 et. Not exactly what i expected but exactly the oposite of what whatbumper said in his post earlier (i didnt see it till i got home)
I now have a direction to head that i believe will get the truck into the 9's The plan as of now is to raise the front of the rear bar....and put the rear shocks back on 5.....and throw MORE POWER at the launch!!!
Heres the best pass......

Re: New personal best today
Thanks guys.
I know it would be a lot faster if I put it in a lighter more aerodynamic car.... But I'm doing it the hard way with the truck and that's what I think is fun about it.
I Intentionally chose a difficult setup based on the things people always told me wouldnt wrk on my truck.
It has been difficult doin this the HARD way...but I tell ya what..ive learned soo much I wouldnt have had I taken the easier route.
I realize its not everyones cup of tea...but to me its what makes it that much more rewarding.
Hoping to update next time w single digit ets and 1.30 60fts

Take the tailgate off and it will probably go 9's. Great job, and your truck would be even more of a sleeper with a camper covering the roll bars.

higher rpm doesn't mean you're hitting them harder. for example, most of my guys only leave between 3500-4500 rpm and let the converters do the work.
Our best 60' to date has been a legit 1.03 in an X car so I feel confident we are close.
