Powerglide tailhousing bushing
I think ive knocked the bushing out of the tailhousing on my PG. Its a stock tailhousing w. aftermarket yoke. I havent taken it apart yet but while lookin for the cause of a NASTY vibration i found the slip yoke VERY sloppy. This is the one in my 3800lb truck. Assuming the bushing has been pushed in...what causes it? Is it possible the yoke coulda moved around enough and caught the edge of the bushing it and shoved it out of its bore?
I need to get it fixed...just wondering if i need to upgrade to the roller tail housing or fix the bushing and get back after it. Not wanting to spend the coin on new parts unless its really needed.

Pretty obvious what happened. It it from too much load for the bushing or is there something else that caused it?

I forget what rear suspension you're using, but maybe the problem is the driveline angles used?
Since it sees street use (and if it's a ladder bar/4-link setup) is the driveline angles/U-joint operating angles profile compatible with street/highway use (being at/close to "equal but apposing" front & rear U-joint operating angles) vs having a "drag only" driveline profile (at/close to point the crank C/L directly at pinion C/L)?

Never had a problem with the stock rear bushing in my pg ever, nor do the many others that use them, so this is not a valid argument.

There are a couple of derogatory logos in that collection. One is the blue oval with script that reads "Fail"...then there's a bowtie a few rows up from the bottom of the page. Other than that pretty useful....
But I'm with Jon....blue oval to the core, but ya can't argue the 'glide's reputation as a good racing transmission...not because it's GM, but because it's simple, strong, available and everybody makes parts for it. Kinda like our 9" rear.

Im gonna double check the drives shaft length. Im thinking it may be bottoming out in the trans w the amount of separation its seeing.

Update...found the splines twisted in the Strange slip yoke. It looks like it was "bottoming" out were the splines were twisted during suspension seperation.

Errr....i didnt have the "more cowbell" approved chromo yoke on it this time. Duhhhh.......this is how i learn!! lol
Just got off the phone w. Strange and his exact words were "I cant believe the forged yoke didnt twist clear off. Shoulda had the chromo yoke a long time ago!"
Lesson of the day fellas.....
CHEAP ISNT ALWAYS CHEAPER IN THE LONG RUN!!

Re: Powerglide tailhousing bushing
Im gonna stick w the bushing tail but after talking to STRANGE im gonna order the hardened yoke now and run it w the bushing. He assured me if I end up w a roller tail down the rd the nitrited yoke will fit both tails.
Tail bushing, gov support bushing are the seal are already replaced. Should have the new yoke next week. Planning on making noise w it next sunday

Mike I bought a strange 2 piece yolk when I did my project , and love it you can unbolt it and take the drive shaft out and leave the yolk in the back of the trans, really handy to keep from pouring trans fluid all over when removing the trans...
