The title is misleading to say the least. It is really about software copyright infringement under the guise of "safety".
Wanna buy a chip for your 2018 Mustang/Camaro/Challenger etc...? The OEM's want to be the only place you can shop.

I agree about the title. It still seemed like a decent article, and if you read the comments, they made some good points too. Mercedes was/is like this but had to give up some things for emissions purposes. I think it's mainly about money, and warranty repair also.

OEMs are just lobbying for there own interest and to try and lock up our free markets. Big companies hate competition from little guys.

Even if it is just referring to one type thing it will be a precedent for all other modifying or repairs in the future ... lawmakers shouldn't allow this to get started.

They not only want to lock you the owner out of doing the repair. They want to monopolize the system so the MFR is the only repair facility. Baby steps..... with software/copyright laws being the stepping stone. The goal is to run diy and all serbice facilities out using dumb layers and a dumber public.

Wit until they all sell the vehicles with locked hoods and only manufacturer approved service facilities will have the key.
Rolls Royce / Bentley has already done this kind of thing for years.

I don't see any good out of it for the consumer, thats for sure. They pulled the same shit in 1992 with Hvac and the refrigerant laws, and screwed homeowners over. With SEMA all the auto parts chain stores that will be affected, this will be a harder fight though. It's for your protection thought, so it's must be good.
