C6 Interchangeability
I'm getting an old drag racing C6 rebuilt by a local shop (it was a FE manual valve body racing trans, and am converting it to a 429 case) and need some parts for it. I found a Lincoln C6 with the long tailshaft and think it is later than 76. Just wondering if its worth the complication of mixing pre and post 76 parts in the same transmission?

no problem mixing , just make sure you keep the front planetary hubs with the proper forward drum as the torrington pocket depth change on the forward drum .330 vs .400 and use the pre '76 low/reverse piston with the 24 individual springs

Thanks, as I look at the donor trans, it has a casting date of April 1975 so it might have the early guts.
The old drag racing trans came out of a 68 or 69 390 GT Torino with the cast iron tailshaft which I didn't get with the transmission. The donor core has the long tailshaft and tailshaft housing, so I'm looking for an aluminum tailshaft housing that is nominally 13 1/2 - 14".

Re: C6 Interchangeability
Any suggestions on the top three mods that should be done to a racing transmission? It already has a full manual valve body, 5 clutches in the forward drum, H servo & E lever. Old school build probably from the early 90's that ran mid-10's in a heavy car.

Roller thrusts or at least the #9 at a minimum
5 clutches in the high/reverse.
Nice solid Aluminum pan to stiffen the case.

I have all this and the full roller bearing conversion with one of Frank's trans brake VB"s, my C6 works awesome. It's a big old heavy beast but it will last a long time unlike all the PG's I see getting torn down every year or every 2 years.Gregaust wrote:Roller thrusts or at least the #9 at a minimum

OK, thanks. Already have the cast aluminum deep pan. Been thinking at minumum would go for the #9 roller bearing parts from Broader.
