Motorplate will always be better. Adds strength to the front of the car, helps with cylinder distortion, etc. Midplates are up to you. Big power cars that hit the tires hard (like Nitrous) would benefit. I ran without a midplate for a long time with no issues but I used strut rods and a JW bell, along with a poly trans mount.
There are a few who dislike using a mid plate in a Fox......meh

We use a motor and midplate on everything if we have the choice.

I have both a front and mid plate in my car. Keith made a custom one for me off my templates. My car is a stock body heap. The two plates stiffen things up and I like them for that reason.

IMO......
if it's a dedicated drag car with an OEM auto trans case then use 1/4" aluminum motor plate + .090" steel (or 1/4" aluminum) mid plate + rubber tailshaft mount. If the motor/mid plates are fairly wide then fore/aft engine travel limiters must be used.
if it's a dedicated drag car with an aftermarket SFI auto trans case then use 1/4" aluminum motor plate + .090" steel (or 1/4" aluminum) mid plate + rubber or urethane tailshaft mount. If the mid plate is (A) 1/4" aluminum, (B) has a real narrow width (cuz sandwiched between double frame rails), and (C) is mounted to a "mid plate tree", then fore/aft engine travel limiters might not be needed depending on how the car is built.
If it's a street driven car just keep it simple & use quality rubber/urethane factory mounts.
