Can I use an aluminum spool?
Is it ok for me to run an aluminum spool? My friend has one that I can get cheap. What would be the life of them?

C-6 tranny with t brake

Thanks

you are asking a lot of a spool with that much power with a C6 and 4.56's. I would use a steel one.

Re: Can I use an aluminum spool?
IIRC aluminum spools were originally meant for dragsters (cuz light weight car) vs heavier door cars. But the Mark Willams catalog says their aluminum spool is also often used in lighter weight/decent HP door cars like Pro Stock & Comp Eliminator. But IMO in the P/S & Comp applications the A/spool most likely becomes a throw away maintenance item.
If you can get the spool for "free" you could take a chance on it. Just don't be surprised if it fails (or "moves around" a bunch & wears out the gear set) at your car's current weight.

Free race parts can end up being a lot more costly than a new part at top $$$
