Mmmmm.... venison
Picked up tonight from the processor. Got jerky, jalapeno cheese salami, burger and steaks. Just got done piggin out on some back straps
I was lucky this year and got 2, a doe and an 8 inch spike - both were keepers. I know no... no trophy rack but venison is venison and I got 200+ lbs of meat. Along with the fact I love to deer hunt and only have about 3 days a year to get my fix ,cause of work. Would love to get one of those big a$$ racks
Anyone else deer hunt? How'd you do?

Re: Mmmmm.... venison
New baby came two weeks into bow season, so I have only been out three times. Didn't get anything, though I did get my mount back from the taxidermist. Nice 8-point from last season, tall tines. Have to look at it to keep me going. Itching to get back out there. Hate that I missed so much of the season, but then again, had something else going on. Still got some venison from last season.
In-laws coming into town. I think I am going to try to get away a couple of times to go hunting then.

I almost got a trophy buck on the way to work 2 days ago. His rack was so huge that he looked like a dog with an elk rack. He could barely pick his head up as he sauntered out of the way of my Mustang. Why don't I see this stuff when I'm locked and loaded???....

I always shoot the youngs deer, I hate big Racks First you can't eat them, They don't fry up or make good soup. so they are useless.... and I dam sure don't like someting else to Dust..... and beside the meat is usually so dang tough, so I don't shoot any old bucks as all... one shot thru the side of the head and dead never have to chase them either....

Backstrap, burgers and jerky. Shot the first thing that came along. A little spike buck. Good eatin' !!
Gotta wait till the 2nd season to fill the other tag. A nice young doe would be dandy.

Had stir fry back straps last night from the small buck I shot. I try to hunt every chance I get. I have been out a dozen times or more this year. Bowhunting is a lot of fun and gets me in the woods for an extended season.

venison cube steak in gravy and onions over rice is my favorite food. Sausage done up right is a close second.
I dont do nearly as much hunting as I did two years ago. I still like to put one deer a year in the freezer but beyond that I dont really care much for it.

Re: Mmmmm.... venison
This is one I got last year at a tick less than 600 yds...
This is a bull elk I took with my bow...
Here are a couple pics of the Stag Buck I shot last week in my brother's yard... He was about 190# dressed weight... Check out the massive rack on this beast... Nearest we can tell, he's about 7-1/2 - 8-1/2 yrs old... After I saw him, I had to go back about a mile to my dad's house and get his .41 Mag pistol 'cause I didn't have a gun with me... Then I went back and shot him at about 15 ft. while he was bedded next to my neice's old play house... Appearently he'd been struck by a car a while ago, 'cause he had a messed up right leg, a broken jaw, and snout also... I think we did each other a favor when I shot him...

Re: Mmmmm.... venison
Doug,
Whats that critter I see beside and below the bull elk? Sort of a jackalope hybrid? Thats the real trophy!
600 yards! I bought and scoped a .50 cal muzzleloader to increase my range over my slug gun. MY last 2 deer were shot @ a tick under 8 and 12 ........ feet.
