Bad news from my neuro surgeon.
They had been giving me some hpoeful feed back about the situation with my neck. I had another episode with it. The repeat MRI showed that I have not one but three levels of disc that have to be fixed. C4 level is worst. It has a large piece of disc that has broke loose and is floating in the spinal canal. Right now it has the t3 nereve trapped and I have no strength in my left arm, pain is unbearable at times. I'm sched. For a three level spinal fusion mon. Morning. At 5AM. I could sure use your prayers.
On a different note I discussed racing with my surgeon. He says NO WAY in a fast car. I'll be selling most of my stuff. Plan on keeping my truck for now. Every thing else will be up for sale.
I have a guy coming to look at the chassis tomorrow. The engine is up for sale the trailer will be as soon as the car or engine sales. Various other stuff Honda EX 400 pit bike if you have any interest in any of it give me a shout. Basic description trailer is a 28 foot enclosed diamond pleat alum floor ext lighting. Needs paint to look sharp.it had a bunch of stickers on it at one point Has Air cond. elect. tongue jack
engine is a a head c&c alum block 605 ci with a tunnel ram and dual quick fuel 1150s.
I just stuck it up here for any one on board who has serious interest.ill be out of pocket for a bit after Monday.

Re: Bad news from my neuro surgeon.
Dang Ward, I sure hate to hear the news about your neck. I know the Doc said no racing, but he didn't say anything about selling it all. Maybe there's a way you can keep your stuff and go in partners with someone and stay involved? I know it wouldn't be the same, but atleast you'd still have a hand in going fast. If that ain't your thing, maybe some truck pullin'? I know I'm rambling on,but just thinkin out loud. You're a good dude and I hate to see crap like this happen to good guys. You have my prayers through this mess, and if I can come down there and help ya with anything, let me know please. ---RED

Re: Bad news from my neuro surgeon.
Ward, I just had a 3 level fusion ( C3-4-5-6) December 2nd and I'm already back to work. Don't harp on it, it's not that bad of ordeal. There will be minor discomfort of your throat because they have to move it out of the way ( I'm assuming they are going in thru the front of your neck). Other than that....easy peasy dude. You will be hacking up phlegm for a while due to the inflammation of your throat. When you sleep, it's best to sleep with your head elevated or sleep in a chair or else you will be coughing all night long ( ask me how I know LOL ).
Good luck and have a speedy recovery.
I was already fused at the C6-C7 previously 12 years ago.

That sounds like a tough time, we're prayin for ya.
Might want to wait on clearing everything out, if its all paid for, its not costing anything. You just might be able to get something together once you heal up!!
Good luck,
Bill

Re: Bad news from my neuro surgeon.
It does suck. It has been a hard decision for me It's hard to partner up around here. There is not that many people around here. It is all paid for. I talked in depth with my surgeon about it. He Just didn't think it is a good ideation contine racing at the level i have been I plan on selling off the hard core race stuff They will just go down if they sit around un used. I still plan on
Having a car. Just need one I can manage. I still have the stick shift cobra I had at the last bash. I have a couple of fairlanes. A 66 big block car and a 67 small block car and a a 08 covetable Shelby. So I'm not with out a car. . I've thought of turning the race stuff into a kit cobra or something. I'm not quitting cars I'm just too banged up cont. what I've been doing. I plan on staying active on the board I've made alot of good friends here.I'm glad Y'all feel the same about me.
I ve had a single level fusion before so I sort of know what I'm in for. This time the have to remove the old hard wear. Guy I'm seeing is supposed to be one of the best around. He does stuff for Alabama foot ball team. I would have like to have quit this stuff on my own terms. But somebody has to out run Bruno with a push rod motored street car lol. I plan on being at the next bash with something to go down the track in. It just won't be in a low 5 sec car. I am serious if anyone thinks they can use at of this stuff contact me. I have a guy with dibs on chassis. I have a mean engine and a nice trailer. To. Of race stuff. As always I will discuss/ reasonable trade offered.

Re: Bad news from my neuro surgeon.
Keeping a good thought for you here, Ward.
I have several friends around here with race cars. They all rely on me (and me on them) for one thing or another. I find i get just as big a kick out of tuning a car as I do driving one. I'm sure there's a hungry young gun up there who'd love to be coached in a race car. Just sayin'......

As a small light at the end of the tunnel. I had triple bypass surgery and when the dummys put me back together they somehow stiched me up or whatever they did and it moved my adams apple to the right now swallowing is a bitch have to look straight forward and lift my head and swallow like a fricken turtle cant turn my head very far to the left. less than a year later had not 1 but 2 strokes reducing the strength on my left side along with the burning and tingling in the arm and leg and i finally had to file for ss disablity walk with a cane mostly and I hated that the whole time still do mad at the friken world I tell you. earlier this year I had to have a stent put in so as we age these things are going to plague us. I guess what I'm try to say is the doctors say I should not be racing. it takes me forever to get ready to go to the track it takes me forever to build a engine and the guys i know sure remind me of that. and I do suffer a day or to afterwards not as fast as your stuff high 9 s my point is do not sell anything yet wait until you heal and see what you can do because I amaze most of my doctors with what I can still accomplise because as lets say i'm a older man not ancient yet it may take my forever and sometimes i have to pay someone to do what i used to but it keeps me busy and sane. I thank my family for not letting me do exactly what your talking about they talked me out of it no wait they jumped up and down and said no your not selling expecailly my wife who knows what the cars and competition means to me. no I don't win the races I used to no i dont travel anymore but I still go to my local track when I can and give the young guys all they can handle. I may be different for me because this was my love before I could drive. please please do not give up put one of your younger local drivers that's taltented in you car and mentor him at least it will get you to track to see how well you can put a car together and tune it. my body has slowed down enough we are putting a younger driver that cant afordd the equipment I have in our faster car and im going to step back to the 11 second deal. I personaly feel if some of us don't start doing that the sport may just die off sorry for the rant guys sometimes it takes ones story to help another as for the spelling you know im old and cant see. you are in my prayers ward get well and never let a doctor decide your future as he does not live in your body you do!!! we are a pretty tight nit group at our track and everyone knows my limits and trust my ability to drive my cars safely and loves to try to whip up on me which helps greatly with my confidance once again guys sorry for the rant DO NOT LET OTHERS TELL YOU WHAT YOU ARE CAPABLE OF YOU KNOW INSIDE AND THATS WHAT COUNTS!!!!!!!!!!!! Get well soon!!!

Re: Bad news from my neuro surgeon.
I'm not quitting on everything. I've delt with this a long time. My first surgery was around 29. I'm almost 50. I know I have to make some changes. I'm not going to hang my self or anthing. I'll still be helping my buddy with the drag radial car. We tune on a bunch of cars. I've still got some pass's in me. Just in a different type car. I plan on being at the next bash with some kind of a car to race. I can use your prayers. I'm scheduled for surgery at 5 am tomorrow.

ward just had a thought about your car I see its a large cubic inch car which im sure is pretty wicked on the neck when It launches any thoughts to maybe selling the large motor keeping the chassis and build a smaller ci motor with a turbo with progressive controls so the launch would not be so hard on your neck just thinking aloud. and after reading your last post you reminded me of a surgery I had not mentioned in my previous rant at 24 and it was never the same l4 l5 disc fusion thanks for the reminder wish I was closer to you to help out my prayers will be with in the morning as I load the grandkids into paw paws school bus there I go giving away my age again.
ps the first injury was self inflicked by trying to put my first 429 bare block on the engine stand young and dumb as hell!!!

Ward, good luck my friend! I had c6 and c7 disc removed and cadaver bone put and a cage and screws installed in 2004. Can't sleep very long at a time, but I still race a fast car!
