Kaase Intake
I've got a couple of questions about the new Kaase Boss Nine intake.
1. Will it flow better than the Victor. And is it enough to justify selling my ported Victor.
2. The Website says it will bolt to any oem head but I noticed that the bolt hole between 2, 3 and 6,7 is different than Oem style intakes so do the oem heads have to be drilled and tapped?
Thanks
Alan

Re
That makes sense then. Too bad though, I was hoping for an improvement over the tfs/edelbrock offerings.

Re: Kaase Intake
I am confused by the question, but I'll try to answer.
1. The Kaase Boss Hemi intake is a different intake manifold verses an Edelbrock Victor, or Ford G429 and H429 single plane intake. The Kaase intake is intended for the Boss Hemi heads whereas the Victor is intended for the OEM style heads, such as a DOVE-C or CJ head. There is no interchangability.
2. Relatively speaking, the Kaase Boss intake manifold (Dommy style), will outflow a Victor intake manifold (Dommy style). I just got through porting a Kaase Boss Hemi intake and it is a very nice piece.
3. There will be a new TFS Street MAFIA intake (Dommy style) coming out in the near future, that will bolt on in place of the Edelbrock Victor, Ford G429/H429 single plane manifold,,,,,and it will outflow and out horsepower the Edelbrock Victor. It has already been proven on the flowbench and on the dyno on two different engines.
Hope this helps,
Charlie Evans

Re: Kaase Intake
Uncle Charlie,
How does the port match look out of the box on that new TFS intake as compared to some P-51s? Will the intake need some work to match up? Might as well sell the Victor I already have and get the new intake when Lem gets those P51s for me...

John,
It will be sometime next year before we see the new manifold. So you make your decision from there as to keep the Victor or sell it.
As it stands now, the new TFS Street MAFIA manifold can be run as is out of the box on the P-51 heads, or you can port match it to the P-51 heads. The side walls of the new manifold are more vertical and straight.
Hope this helps,
Charlie

Al,
The manifold was + 17 Hp over a fully ported Victor on Blake's 557 CID engine. It went from 850 Hp to 867 Hp in back to back pulls. The manifold was + 18 Hp on Randy's 562 CID engine with 419-420 cfm P-51 heads at 7,000 rpm to 7,000 rpm over his fully ported Victor. Both of these engines were pretty stout sportsman engines. If your engine is a 700 Hp unit, it's not going to "give" you + 17 Hp over your fully ported Victor. You understand that it would be a percentage less. I'm trying to say, the milder the engine, then the less the Hp gain with the TFS Mafia manifold.
In regards to flow, I thought I would test it to the max, so I bolted it up to a set of fully ported P-51 heads that flowed 420 cfm with just a radius entry. The manifold and head combined flowed just about 3% to 4% less than the head by itself with the radius entry. That's really, really good. Also, the end runners are as good as the center runners, and we had very even EGTs out of all the cylinders.
Hope this helps,
Charlie

Re TFS
Charlie,
Thanks for the information that is very helpfull. I am sending you a pm with a little more specific question. I was questioning what the intake bolted to becase here is what Jon's website says about the Boss Nine. "Although designed to be used with our new Boss Nine heads, this intake will also fit any of the factory OEM heads. When tested on a 466”engine, this manifold was 50 HP better than the best NASCAR single plane and 100HP better than the factory dual plane that came on the 1969-1970 production cars. We have seen over 1000 HP with this......"
Thanks again.

Re TFS
Hey Charlie.
Tell TFS I'd sacrafice for the team and give the new intake some real world testing on my puller before they unveil the intake next year. Oh and earlier in the year is better for us 3 season sports guys.
