Hey guys,
I guess I have someone with plenty of dough gunning for me this summer. What's the power potential for a SOHC? 500 plus cubes... I think he's gonna have about 521. Mine has maybe 800 now... sending my heads to Charlie porting this winter... maybe a bigger stick.
Any idea's?

I would get with Lem and have him cut you a new Cam for your setup and go ..... most I have seen out of an SOHC is about 700. but you have a much superior setup to his....

RPM potential is what will decide the outcome here and how high in the RPM range each engine will perform; more gear ratio requires less input power.

I guess I shoud've stated... he has an aluminum block too. But... my car is pretty light. I have billet crank and rods....diamond pistions... I spin it to about 7500 normally. Should be interesting.

Well, if Jay Brown is doing the motor, the power potential is much higher than that 700. I believe the SOHC's he uses in Drag Week are knocking on the 900's in the hp department.

I say don't worry about the Fords...go out and smoke some Brand X stuff!

that one had a bunch of way over the top machine work, but is cool.

You should be able to get 950-1000+ with the a heads and a single 4 no sweat at 572".

I'll agree with Dave, because we made 1031 Hp with my 572 CID engine back in June 2008. It used our CNC ported TFS A-460 heads, dry sump, and the tunnel ram and 2 X 4 set-up. So,,,,,,knock off 65 Hp or so for the other carb, and a rightous 572 single carb deal should make around 965-970 Hp.

Phillip's TFS A-460 headed engine was more impressive than mine, in terms of Hp per CID, and he had even a bigger engine. These deals need to be well thought out, and you need to get with Lem on the appropriate camshaft, also the pistons and ring package.
