1968 Mustang 460 Build
On my 460 crank it says R 020 written on there in a type of marker. I know it propably means the crankshaft has been turned etc.. But not exactly sure? What would that make new bearing specs have to be? Also does anyone know of any good cheap rebuild kits? I really need to find some good cheap bearings especially for atleast the rods and mains. Do you guys think the camshaft bearings need to be replaced? I know the engines been rebuilt once before, but I don't know if all bearings have. I'd really like to replace the cam bearings also but everyone always complains of how hard that are to remove and install. Any and all information is appreciated, not looking for rude comments. Also the pistons are stamped 060. Thanks.

It means the rod journals have been cut .020" undersize. Check to see if it has standard size main journals, or if they have been cut too.
As for cam bearings, it depends on what condition they are in. If they are scared up or full of nicks, and showing the copper layer, then I'd certainly replace them. It takes a special tool to install them. The machine shops have the tool.

I don't have a caliper to measure with. I will check the crank if it is marked anywhere else... I guess I will just have to plasti gauge all bearings during assembly (as usual) Do you have any recommendations for bearing kits or rebuild kits?

Don't buy ANYTHING until you know the measurements of everything. Take it to a machine shop so they can tell you what you have.

If you have the old bearings just look at the back.It should be stamped on back. Then measure again. Good luck.

Re: 1968 Mustang 460 Build
This is what I just ordered for my 460:
Double Roller 9 Keyway Billet Steel Timing Chain Kit.
SUM-K3500 Cam and Lifters.
Clevite .060 Ring set.
King .020/.020 bearings.
Has anyone ever dyno'd or know the hp/tq 460 before and after a straight up timing chain set?
Thanks all!
