Bouncing Oil PSI
my oil psi is bouncing around doesn't matter if it is idleing or not here are some videos
https://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a179/promodrod/?action=view¤t=VID00003-20090730-2113.flv
https://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a179/promodrod/?action=view¤t=friday.flv
Here are the goods:
ALL BRAND NEW(unproven!)
C&C solid block
4 3/4 stroke
Peterson 3 stage pump with -16 feeding it
sae30 wt oil
Jeff Johnson wet sump pan
raised the front to insure we had enough oil to the pick-up
I tore the engine down to check all bearings, all are fine. we have not raced the engine yet but have let it idle and reved it up tuning our Big Stuff 3. I also recorded these same reading with the BS3

Re: Bouncing Oil PSI
what type gauge do you have elec.or manual if elec it may be gettig interferance some where and check oil filter or change it and see if it helps might be something wrong with the filter I had problem one time with my 351c not sure if it was the oil gauge or the filter i changed both at the same time but it quite after that not sure if that was the problem or not but it never did it again it started after i broke it in after i changed the oil

Thanks I like it here allready! I sold all my Chevy stuff!! Back to Fords where I belong! But htis this one is kicking my tail! Changed oil filters and oil filter mounts to a Peterson becuase it has more concave to it per Carrol Carter, no leaks or cracks that I can find! I recorded it with the Big Stuff3 and watched the guage no luck!! Thanks guys all ideas are welcome!!bruno wrote:Rod ,

Re: Bouncing Oil PSI
yes sir, adjusted psi up to 65 and down to 30(averages between the bounces)dfree383 wrote:Pump Adjusted Right? Everythings new right?
Every thing is brand new out of the boxes(that always scares me!)
Sent pump back to Peterson they replaced the spring , piston and back of the housing, SAME result
Jacked front of car up with rear on ground to run the oil back to the pick up in the pan SAME result
disconnected the scavaging from the bottom of the turbos and let them drain freely SAME result
I have talked to Peterson the oil pump provider in detail and they have inspected the pump.
I have talked to Jeff Johson the oil pan fabricator.
I have talked to Carol and Chris Carter the guys who make the block.
It's gotta be somthing that I did stupid!! I just wonder what???
Thanks again everyone!

Re: Bouncing Oil PSI
It turbo charged? Take the turbos off and see if it still does it....Could be something with the seals.
Same thing if you running a vaccum pump...... Take it off and see if it changes.

Re: Bouncing Oil PSI
The turbo removal from thesystem is a good idea!
I just got off the phone with Carol Carter and he told me to DRY SUMP it and be done with it! SOOO that is what I am going to do! These things take so much oil they have the largest oil galleries I have ever seen!
SO thanks everyone for the ideas I will keep yall updated!!

we are ready for the next hurdle!
we put a Moroso dry sump pan, a Peterson 5 stage oil pump and a dry sump tank on her , had to change some intake plumbing, but oil pressure is steady and good, these blocks just take so much oil to run properly I guess! But she is fixed we are trying to test this coming weekend at Farmington to ready for the ADRL in Rockingham! Tough first outing I know, right!

Re: Bouncing Oil PSI
i know this is a done deal now but do you think oil restrictors to the turbos would have helped the problem?

I did not ry that by recommendation of the turbo company, We did take the car out this weekend for the first time on the third run we spun our way to a 4.69 @159mph weighing 3000# on 10.5s!

I was about to say wow in reference to the killer twin turbo set-up. Then Damon's old retired batman on a bike pic made me forget all previous thoughts...
