First weekend out w. nitrous.
Hey guys....had a fun first outing w. my new nitrous setup. Truck worked great for the first time w a nitrous setup on the Aheaded 557.
Got alil greedy on the last pass and took out all the delay in the nitrous timer to see if it would leave on full power. (77f 64n jet) I had it set on .2 delay the pass before this and it hooked super and put up the best 60ft the truck has ever gotten (we run the mt 275 pros)
Anyways....it didnt hold leaving at full power (surprize!! lol) But im thinkin it might with some shock adjustments. My feeling is it needs a stiffer rebound setting in the rear and possibly a stiffer compression as well. (the rears were set at 5 from full loose on the rebound and 11 from full loose on the compression. the shocks have 18 total clicks of adj.) This has caltracs and mono leafs and weighs 3800lbs. Run before this w. the .2 delay went 1.39 60ft.
What do you guys think, will it handle leaving on full power w. some shock adj or should i just plan on still having at least some minimum delay in the timer (say .05-.1)?
heres how it launched using .2 delay.

If I recall you dialed it in without the juice, when I look at the slo-mo vid it took the initial hit, but not for long you went from .2 to 0 but you have the adjustability in the delay to find the sweet spot, I would adjust the delay down until it slows down then look at making minor shock adjustments until it picks up then see if you can turn down the delay more so you do not create a bad leave situation.

I have found when you start dead hooking with much juice parts usually start flying off the vehicle. I would leave a little delay and increase your jets and make the time up down the track. You have a pretty small jet now, when you step up in the .90's N jets it will fly on a progressive controller.

Re: First weekend out w. nitrous.
PS:
I know it goes against the grain but, put a little weight at the back of the truck like the guys in the FAST Series do, I think the increased traction and better 60ft time will offset the extra load overall in ET's. Won't hurt to try and it's cheap and easy and if it does not work out you can take it off quick anyway.

Re: First weekend out w. nitrous.
IMO it is crushing the sidewalls too much at the initial hit like it needs a little more air pressure in the slicks.
Also the rear shock extension (rebound) valving might be a little too loose. It looks to me like the rear suspension extends/separates quickly a decent amount at the initial hit, then stops extending/separating for a split second, then continues to extend/separate even more (possibly topping-out the rear shock travel & starting to unload/bounce the sidewall) while at the same time the front suspension travel also tops out (or appears to top out) too, then it hazes the tires.

Re: First weekend out w. nitrous.
Thanks for the input guys.
Dave, I have always ran these radial tires at 17-18lbs w good resuslts. They were at 17lbs on both of the above runs. If i was to raise the pressure some how much you think might be necessary? Ive got alot of suspension travel and the rear shocks only have 2in of compression and like 5" on extension. It looks to me like in the vid w the .2 delay that the rear tire is about to start to unload when the nitrous comes on .2 after the hit and plants the tires again.
Maybe some air pressure and shock settings will help it alil. I dont plan on trying full power again. Think well make some shock changes and start w .2 delay and lower in smaller increments from there. (Btw...I was told it wouldnt hold leaving w zero delay from a VERY quick outlaw8.5 racer I know. I shoulda listened...lol)

Maybe I should try slowing down the front struts too. (Theyre set full loose now)

Re: First weekend out w. nitrous.
Tighten rear shock( rebound ) 2 clicks and add 2 psi of air to the rear....

I thought the radial guys hit them at the launch to prevent the rehit while the suspensions was starting to unload. I just don't like doing it because I have trashed to many parts that way for little gain, but my 78 left very hard when I hit it dead off the tree for what it was.

Dont get me wrong....if itll hold full power from the hit im gonna give it to it. But if it wont well delay as much as necessary. Part of what I love about this is its HARD. And because of that ive learned alot about how to tune and sutup a car! I still dont know shit compared to some of yall....but compared to where I was a few yrs ago my junk is wrking MUCHO better

Shit I'll say it is. Keep up the good work. I would run a plate off the line and fog it mid track myself but whatever works for you is good.

Re: First weekend out w. nitrous.
Im not foggin anything until i get my aftermarket block put together! lol Im still on a 4 bolt DOVE block w REALLY healthy pumpgas NA numbers. Once ive got the Premier block done (later this summer) i plan on spraying w. whatever it takes to get it to my chassis cert
At that point i may need a safer Jeep though

Re: First weekend out w. nitrous.
I bet that 4 Bolt Dove block would take a lot of gas but if you are planning an aftermarket block no sense in stressing it for sure. I am about in the same boat building a mild street engine and slowly acquiring parts for a stouter build as they become available. Not planning as going near as fast as you either, just something to enjoy put it on a few Bowtie Boys.
