I have not been a fan of "A" heads
I have built 2 different versions of A motor in the past. They were all a BRICK.
Anywhere from 509 CI to 598 CI
I used the original Ford A head on my first A motor, and EX 514's on the second one. Neither motor ran anywhere near what I thought it should run.
Went to a C head, and havent looked back until now.
Brandon (bigblockfalcon) wanted to build a bigger pc, and I struggled with making him buy C heads due to what it costs to assemble one. I have been watching Phillip Oakley build A motors with the new version A from TFS. He has them hauling ass for a lack of a better term.
So I decided to let Phillip sell me heads, intake and a camshaft to assemble a 598, and use the cash saved on The C head to buy vacuum pump, and dry sump system. (so much better for bracket racing IMHO.
So, we assembled it and got it in the car, weighed the car and it sits @ 1996lbs on the starting line, driver onboard....fuckn heavy!
first full hit, 4.651@149 in the south Fla heat last Saturday. It has 50's in it easily in this air, let alone the cool weather and low humidity we get in winter, I think high 40's not out of the question. To say I am pleased is an understatement, as I take spending other peoples money seriously, and I only do this shit for fun.
So, Thank you Flip and the guys at Oakley, and if you want to build an A motor that makes over 1100, easily, call those guys.

Thank you Sir!!! We appreciate your business and glad you are happy! TFS a-460 heads are the best bang for the buck out there IMO!

For all of the A head haters, you can't compare the new TFS heads to the old motorsports heads. They are as different as the old cobrajet heads and the new P-51s. Not taking anything away from Flip, he obviously knows how to get all the power out of most BB stuff. I had a max effort Motorsport head set up years ago and was ecstatic to achieve 850hp.

The old castings can be made to run as good if you want to spend the time and money. It's all in the ports and valve jobs. But you can't think old school you need to update your thinking.

The nice machined chambers in the current TFS 'A' style heads does help also.

We'll see what my 340's with the machined chambers do with just a port match job to a manifold I'm getting from Oakley. The manifold has 8 funny looking nozzles on it also

I am looking at building something similar for a king of the street type racing. Same engine but less cam, compression and a wet sump. The car is a 89 fox coupe on a 315 radial. Interesting build!
