460 into 4x4
What oil pan would be needed to put a 460 into a 1967-1972 4x4 Ford?
Am I correct that the 460 was not offered in any 4x4 Ford in the 70's?

There has never been any evidence of one being built for sale in the US. However Frank Merkl has personally seen one in Canada that was a factory setup 460 in a 79 4X4 F150.
You need a rear sump pan from a 4X4 or a van pan. Lem was selling new pans for a good price just a little while ago.

I wonder if Frank seen that when it was brand new on the lot because I am from Canada and owned plenty of 70's F trucks and never seen a 4 wheel drive one with a factory 460. Between my dad and myself we have owned several 2wd versions though.

Re: 460 into 4x4
Ive heard there was a mining group out of Utah that special ordered a few but they were 4wd F250s.
Every person Ive told that to (mostly on internet forums) have told me its a lie because it wasnt an available motor. I say BS because I think 30yrs ago Fords assembly line would do pretty much anything a customer with enough $$$ wanted....especially on multiple vehicles.
Besides....its too easy to do.

Like they said form a van, or 87+ F250 4x4.
You could try asking in the Stuff for sale section. Some people have some with the pickup and dipstick to go with it for decent prices.
Plus it beats looking through a junkyard.
They might of had a couple factory 460s in 70s 4x4s, but don't expect to find one.

Pans you can find some cheap but usley don't come with dip sticks and the dip stick and tube run around $50 I thought I got a good deal until I was going to have to buy the dip stick and tube thanks to my buddy Rick he had one he gave me.

Its not a project of mine. A guy on the 67-72 Ford truck site I post on was looking into a swap. Wanted to point him in a good direction, and not give any false info.
