Aluminum Fuel Cell
Looking at fuel cells for Chuck's car.
5 Gallon aluminum fuell cell like Summit brand SUM-293205 or RCI brand 2050A
$129 and $133
Pros or Cons? Any other brands you recommend?
Both have dual -8 outlets and -8 return
Thanks

Re: Aluminum Fuel Cell
I personally like the Alum. better Damon. The Maverick had one in from the day it was built back in the 70's. Never had a problem. W/the plastic/foam deal, I just worry about the foam deteriating over timeD. Sea wrote:Looking at fuel cells for Chuck's car.

Re: Aluminum Fuel Cell
If it's going to be a small front mounted cell (2-3 gallon) I would just go with a Jaz plastic upright instead of an aluminum cell. Even if it's going to be a small 4-5 gallon "cube" shaped cell I would still go with the plastic Jaz over aluminum. Never have liked any of the RCI stuff (plastic or aluminum) cuz their locking caps are really looking like cheap $hit these days.
But if it's going to be a big/wide cell I would go with aluminum because the plastic stuff will droop/sag a bunch in the center over time on the bigger cells.

Re: Aluminum Fuel Cell
Ice on the cell caused condensation in the cell engine dont run right on water for some odd reason When I tried this it was in the mid 90's and humid as heck and i was trying everything anybody suggested to get the truck running better but just wasted a lot of time trying old wisetales.

Re: Aluminum Fuel Cell
Dave,
We are planning on putting the fuel cell in the back in the center and going with a 5 gallon. My car has the upright plastic up front, but it has a LOT more overhang up front to work with. I have seen some of the older Harwood (red plastic) and one of the older clear plastic cells crack and start leaking, so we were thinking of going with the aluminum for ease of installation (no straps) and it costs about the same.
Damon,
I would recommend getting the fuel cell with the -10 outlets for future needs. Jeg's has them listed (#555-15315) and they are the same cost as the one with the -8 outlets.

Re: Aluminum Fuel Cell
I would advise the -10 outlets also. I needed to change mine after I got things running. If you do aluminum, I would do the weld in bungs for your outlets, makes a nice, clean setup.
I like aluminum just for the fact it looks nice, the poly cells just seem to get nasty looking over time, color fades, centers dip down, things like that.

A good friend of mine is using the 10 gallon Jegs aluminum cell in his pulling tractor, zero issues, and a good price as well. I would think the 5 gallon would be the same quality.

Damon, I have the 5 gallon aluminum cell from Jegs. It works great. You need to go with the one with the 10 an outlets.

I prefer the aluminum. I've always had the plastic stuff leak on me at the fittings.

Re: Aluminum Fuel Cell
maybe i'm just cheap
found that an air tank off a peterbuilt worked good for a puller.
they're cylindrical though if that matters, and had to weld on bungs.
Forget how much they hold though.....quite a bit.

Larry you set the F/C low in the car? Why is that?

Re: Aluminum Fuel Cell
Using Plastic but larger then 5 gal.. After three years it's holding up well but had to remove the foam because of the return system was busting it up some.. I agree with AN-10 lines!
If I did it differently I might try Aluminum.. but then not sure if the fuel will react to the material in the cell over time?

Guess I've been lucky; I have an 8 gallon plastic (forget the brand) cell in my car and it's been in there since I started building the car in the mid 90's. No sagging.
Looks like we will go with the 5 gal. aluminum cell with the -10 outlets.
Thanks guys.

That's a good idea. Pretty plentiful and cheap too.

If you ever decide to use alky... don't you need to avoid aluminum? Something to think about for future use.
