Roller rocker choices . Which one

I was leaning on the Comp Gold rocker of choice but I don't see any talk about them on the forum. Any heads up on this rocker. Also like the scorpion and Harland Sharp pieces. Heads are TrickFlow streets with Jomar girdle. Solid roller 670 ish lift . This is Street build.

Harland Sharp S4073 ? Looks like a good product.

I like the pro magnums or Crower SS stuff

If you are interested in aluminum, that number is a good rocker arm ... the Lunati rockers work well, also.

I think aluminum will work fine for this build. When I put together the 572 I will go Crower . I overlooked the Luniti pieces. good price

After years of trouble free HS service I though I would follow the carrot and try something "new and improved". The results tell the picture.

If someone has the Crane gold, TFS black or Ford blue rocker w/o the clips on the ends of the shaft throw them away.

Curt , how did the rest of the engine do after the carnage. What I mean is did it stop at the oilfilter or did it do more damage somewhere else. I have a Kaase pump that injested some lifter but I haven't looked inside yet.
I'm on the fence with the Lunati rocker and the Harlan rocker. I'm not sure what P/N Harlan to get for the Trickflow street head. any help?

Obviously, I tore it all down, but when it locked up the oil pump it sheared the end of the oil pump shaft and all rotation ended when the distributor quit turning. But there weren't any surprises found.

There are a lot of choices out there. I just believe that you won't find a better aluminum stud rocker than HS's for the money. Call them for their recommendation of your application. 440-238-3260

We've seen a good bit of pictures on this site from those rockers failing and causing carnage...

Thanks a lot, you guys. I 've been running set of blue Ford rockers for a zillion years with no troubles. Now I have to go out to the garage, pull the covers off and check for clips....just so I can relax when I hit the starter button.

You need to do some winter maintenance anyway...

The Comp Golds area a lousy rocker on several levels of which I wont get into. I advise against them.

I recommend the Crower rockers hands-down. The Crowers are very well designed for their intended cylinder head applications in regards to structural integrity, raw materials, design geometry, mass moment of inertia, etc.

Definitely good advice for canted valve heads which side load the stud rocker arms (and can walk the bearing out during articulation).  That being said, centerless trunnion rockers should be suitable for inline valve heads (although a circlipped rocker arm is the more prudent bet).

I thought I already did. Fresh fluids, ran the valves, rebuilt the Dominator, overhauled the busted powerglide, front and rear suspension tuneup, new rack & pinion steering unit....but did NOT look for C-clips on the rockers. I guess I better do it before the Hangover Nationals at Montgomery.

Update...My old blue Ford units have C-clips. I guess that explains why they've run for so long. I know these things are at least 16 years old.

So when did they get the bright idea to eliminate the clips? Are the junkers newer or older than mine?

Come to think of it, Paul, I think tossing them might be a good idea regardless of the canted valve layout. I remember a good friend (serious MoPar guy) who tore up a 452" wedge in his roadster because his Crane Golds came apart on his SHAFT ROCKER SYSTEM (similar to the FE setup).

Common sense....if theres no way of retaining little needle bearings, don't rum `em!!

Crower are hard to beat IMO ..

I have some older Crane gold's with the circlips on the shelf, they seen many 8500+ RPM passes.

Not to Hijack, but Lee is that avatar a Mercury F100 70ish...looks real nice but the pic is too small for me to tell for sure.?

Rocker brand is irrelevant--the trunnion bearings in the 2nd Gen Cranes are the exact same supplier and part number trunnion bearings as used in the Harland Sharps.

If you are concerned about bearing life from long-term usage and the rockers are in good shape, then it is possible to press in new bearings.  Whether they are centerless trunnions or trunnons with circlip ought not make a difference in the structural integrity of the bearing cage itself.  BTW I have the bearings in stock if you feel it's necessary.

I've been using the old Erson 1.73 Roller Rockers on my 466 for years,anyone else running these just curious?

The fracture of the 'cage' is the issue.

The big picture is that not many of these style rockers were out there....seems most were TFS 'black'. It was a matter of timing and volume of the order i.m.o.
