What should I do??
OK, so I don't post here everyday or anything like that, but I do know some guys here and have bought/sold with a decent amount of people here also, but I'm stuck on this situation.
I sold my TFS street headed 528 last spring to someone on this board, he also is a "part time" user, that lives close to me, for some cash and I took a "fresh" 466 in partial trade. Everything was going fine until July when I finally had the time to get the engine into my bronco and get it running. It just seemed "off", and I attempted a short "squirt" on our test track and something came apart. Upon tearing it down, found out the heads were all jacked up. 3 incorrect intake valves( different brand/install height) some of the rockers were jacked up(see my post in the auction block) some bent pushrods, unhappy lifters, just a bunch of stuff in the valve train was not right. I was told this engine was "ready to go" and had been broken in assembled just like it was. I took it too a neighbor of ours to have him look at it, he told me no way the engine was ever run before I got it with those heads, just by the work he was seeing on the heads and the rest of it. He took them to work and did a valve job, checked the springs, got them cleaned up and ready to go. I called the guy I got it from and told him what happened, he told me he would make it right with me. I told him all I really needed was the roller rockers, I had spares of most everything else and I would be happy with that. He told me he would take care of it, just let him know what I wanted to do. I told him either order me a new set of 16 rockers, or just 8 to match up with what is in there now. Thats the last time I have spoken with him, I leave him voice mails about twice a week, he did call my house once when I was at work and just told my wife to have me call him when I got home. I did, and more voice mail.
Am I out of line here? I don't feel that I'm asking too much, I also told him he could just give me the rockers off the 528, after which he told me he sold it. Sorry to wrant on, but I have a slow fuse and this has finally gotten to the point I'm getting pissed.

How close does he live? I think it would be hard for him to dodge a face to face meeting.

X2 on the "face to face". This is an unfortunate deal and sucks when you take a friends word and end up with the short end of a stick.

X2. Give him the chance again to make it right in person, before posting his name. If he doesn't make it right, then crucify him!

Re: What should I do??
That used to be my way of thinking, just kick his ass. About a year ago I rebuilt a 351m for a guy. He pulled it, brought it to me, and picked it up when I was done! Motor is still running fine but he didn't pay me! 100 bucks labor, he furnished parts is all I charged him, trying to be helpful to a fellow poor ass like me! I talked to him numerous times, promised to pay me at tax time, he didn't, and like you I was pissed. Caught him out one morning at the coffee shop, kicked the shit out of him, he pressed charges for assault, cost me $750.00 by the time it was said and done. I totally understand how you feel, just be careful how you handle it. Post his name!!!Old blue Racin Team wrote:the Coug wrote:call him and leave him a message if this is not taken care of asap you will bring his name up on the boards and let everyone know he is a bad deal..... or go meet him face to face and let him know you are way past pissed off....

Personally, I would rather give you something than think I had cheated you. As far as I know I have never cheated anyone intentionally, BUT,I have some SOCALLED friends that know they haven't ever payed me for work or parts, and talk to me all the time and never mention it. I feel if they can live w/it,guess I can too.

Re: What should I do??
Well, he must be looking and listening. I left him a voice mail just after 5pm today, this is what I got back.
Parts failure always sucks. The rockers were stored in a sealed can of oil prior to placing them on the rocker stands and bringing the engine to you. I did offer to do the machine work on the heads, you declined and took them elsewhere. As with any used parts, they are always sold as is. Coil bind should have been checked prior to running the engine. Yes, that combo has been run before and ran properly. I can understand any frustration, but it is what it is. Your 528 wasn't perfect either. The cylinder walls were glazed over pretty bad and needed a hone job. But I didn't complain.
I'm sorry, but I can't be of any help to you besides machine work.
He didn't offer machine work until AFTER I had taken them off and had them done. If the springs coil bound for me, why didn' they on the passes he told me he made on that combo. Total BS in my book. As far as the 528 goes, this is the first I heard about it needing a hone. Before he told me he sold it complete to somebody else and never did anything with it, must have pulled it down a ways to figure out it needed a hone job. I'm leaving him another message, I'll give him a last chance to do this right.

Re: What should I do??
Believe me, I would have if I would have known what a screw up this would turn into. I'd still do it, but he told me he sold it to somebody else. I sent him a return PM and just left him a VM, lets see where this goes.

Short of an ass whippin' one may just need to chalk it up as a lesson learned.
I have a hard time making deals on something such as an engine unless i really know the guy or can take it apart before i make the deal.

This sh*t sucks. I hate hearing stories like this.
When the story keeps changing, something's fishy.
I got screwed over years ago and I rarely buy any high perf stuff used anymore unless I can fully inspect it. Too bad it has to be like that.
