My 92 Has the 3 speed.Curious what took place to have the OD? Is it the same trans with a different tail housing? Also when did Ford start using lockup torque converters in their trucks? Thanks!

Re: c-6 after1992
In 1989 Ford starting using the E4OD (four speed) automatic transmission. It was said to "address some of the weakness in the C6" - but the E4OD has its issues too. Here's a good article on it: http://www.trucktrend.com/how-to/transmission-drivetrain/0703dp-maximizer-e4od-towing-transmission/
The E4OD is an electronically governed transmission (the C6 is hydraulically governed).
You can install an E4OD in place of a C6 using an aftermarket controller (like the MSD 2760). If you were going to go through the trouble of swapping, I would start with a performance built tranny. There is also a "bolt-on" Overdrive unit for a C6, if you have the room. See Gear Vendors website http://www.gearvendors.com/index.html
